PS2 and DEVELOPERS along w/ the GC and XBOX all in one thread

I read this in .. EGM I think... And it basically said that since the PS2 is the only game in town right now developers are still clinging to it as a personal gain.. however, once the GC and the XBOX hits developers might take on the path of the ODDWORLD developers... the article also stated that there are stirs going on that the developers are not happy at all...

I think the title of the article was P.S\'d Off...

I really irritated me... and frankly, I\'m concerned because it did bring up some good points...

but it obvious some developers are going to switch over. There are too many Dev\'s on the PS2 and some of them will lose money.

With over 200 games coming out this year and increased Dev costs not everyone will profit on 1 machine

But The best Devs will be on the PS2 as long as there games are selling and the userbase is high...

Yeah, I read it.  While it did have some good points, I think the PS2 is going to do just fine -- especially now because of all of the bad news about the Xbox (in console debating).  
There are so many things that will prevent the Xbox from taking the #1 spot. (Lack of interest in Japan, lack of support from some developers, rumored delay until 2001 in Japan, awful profits, etc.)
The Gamecube in general, like many have said, is made for a younger audience than the PS2.  
This will leave the PS2 all alone at the top of the console war.

Awful Profits? Sega, Sony, and Microsoft all will lose money on the hardware!! The only way they make money is through software and accessories and that kinda of prediction is ridiculous at this point in time.

All the other points are speculation and I don\'t think you can say absolutely for any of them.

I agree. **** the XB haterz.  The Japanese created Hello Kitty, Dating Sims and Pokemon. What\'s so damn great about the japanese? Atari for the most part started this ****, they\'re 100% US...

As long as i get MGS2 RE4 SH2 and RF i\'ll be fine.

The devs that will stay are the ones who will end up doing the best games.Like the Rubin guy from Naughty Dog said those guys are quitters and it\'s best that they are not developing for the console.

I wouldn\'t necessarily say they are quitters. They are businesses after all and the bottom line is always profit. So if they feel like they will make more money going multi-platform then they will. Many people are already predicting that this generation will be a battle of exclusive titles because a lot of the big developers are going multi-platform.

When you think about it, it makes a lot more sense to go multi-platform. Why put your AAA game out on one console with an ability to sell at the maximum 7 million units when you can put it out on 3 or 4 consoles and be able to sell it to a max of 15-16 million?

I think this next-gen is going to turn into a bidding war for the best exclusive titles. Companies like Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft fighting for the best games from Konami, Square, EA etc.

Yeah i read that and yeah when a developer makes a game not worth poop and it doesnt sell thats not the systems fault

As far as we know, Square is still firmly in Sony\'s clutches. Until we hear an announcement from Square themselves that is where they will lay. But there have been rumors of multi-platform development. Still nothing has been confirmed so nothing is worth discussing.

WHen you talk about Square I must get involved. In all logical and proffesional opinions Square is going no where. I wll say that the only game i exspect will ever go to any other system will be FFXI, which is completly online. And that is exspected to go to PS2 and X-Box. Ofcourse the PC too. Square has siad in press releases. 2 in fact. That Final Fantasy 12 will be released only on the PS2. It stands to reason that if FFX is only on PS2 and FFXII is only on PS2 that Square is not going anywhere. I could also bring up Financial statements, Buisness contracts, and other odds and ends.

Don\'t get me wrong ProfessorX and Ethug, I don\'t have anything against the Xbox.  I was just saying that the way things are looking right now with the PS2 (tons of cool games coming out this year), the PS2 is going to be a hard console to knock off the hill.

I agree Ironfist, When people actually see games like GT3 & MGS
running in stores they will pick machines up. I predict
that Sony\'s user base will grow rather rapidly. a big percentage of people out there are ill informed to specs
and quite frankly aren\'t bothered. Most of those people only have past experiences with consoles and would rather
carry on in the same vien as before. For example if they enjoyed the PS1 then probably nothing will stop them getting
a PS2. People will follow trends, and at the moment PS2 is that trend.
