The Sleeper Hit of this "relaunch"!!
« on: March 11, 2001, 04:10:27 PM »
Everyone is raving on about The Bouncer , Onimusha and Z.OE , but passed over what could be the sleeper hit of March. Shadow of Destiny . I got a short (very short) time with this game and thought it was awesome, so I looked up some reviews of it. It seems to be getting some pretty good ratings, so far.

Confused what Shadow of Destiny is? It is by Konami and directed by the same guy who did Silent Hill. Want to know more?

Check out this review.

Here is the final comments on the IGN review (and a basic outline of what the game is like).

Quote

Just in case you\'re the kind of person that likes to skip to this section and check out the final score instead of reading all of the text, let me make some points doubly clear. There isn\'t any traditional action at all in this game and not even a single action element to speak of. There\'s no pulling and pushing boxes, there\'s no forklift driving, there\'s no punching or kicking, there\'s no shooting, and you definitely can\'t shoot guys in the crotch in this game. The gameplay simply involves the player moving the character around a 3D world, with the only thing close to real action being the ability to run instead of just walk.

Shadow of Destiny is a murder mystery and its enjoyment comes in the form of a captivating storyline that will pull you in so deeply that you won\'t want to stop playing until you finish the quest. And once you\'ve done that, you\'ll likely want to keep playing over and over again until you\'ve unlocked all of the various endings that are truly worth seeing and completely rewarding because they\'ll fill you in on the game\'s different secrets and characters. Unlike most games with multiple endings, you\'re just not getting the entire story here until you\'ve seen each and every one of them.

This definitely isn\'t a game for everyone, but if you\'re okay with a game that relies solely on its storyline and puzzle solving, then Shadow of Destiny is a must-own title and one of the sleeper hits of the year for PlayStation 2.

It got a rating of 8.5 which is higher then The Bouncer which received a 7.0.

My question is to Konami, how could you let this slip by without hype? They are releasing two great games in one month, but only hyping Z.O.E .

I may pick up this game Tuesday when I get Onimusha (depending on cash flow). Anyone else plan on getting it?

Shadow of Destiny looks cool, and it\'s one I\'ll definately be checking out, but probably as a rental first.

BTW If you\'re a sports gamer the sleeper hit of this month could very well be ESPN MLS ExtraTime, just don\'t expect Daily Radar or IGN to go wild about it since they don\'t know jack sh!t about soccer.

Konami is also releasing Ring of Red on March 13 which is getting strong scores as well

Shadows looks cool but I want Ring of Red more so I\'ll probably come back to it someday

Are you insane! I love her character, she stays.

Honestly,..

The concept of the game is great. Unfortunately, I thought the game looked horrible. I mean, the textures were disgusting even by PS2 standards, jaggies, and the game is using a lower resolution than any other PS2/DC game. The game is interesting though, but I wasn\'t able to get \'into it.\'

Yeah. But at the same time I could care less about the graphics. There is plenty of "showcase" tittles. I want something new, and Shadow seems to be that.

I\'ve already beat the game twice now:) I saw 2 different endings. There are 5 endings (A thru E).

The two I saw (C&D) were good, D was much better than C.

I\'m drawn to play this game over and over. There are so many variables that effect different parts, and the outcome. The game is short (4-6hrs) but that\'s fine considering you WILL play it at least 5 times (that\'s 20-30+ hrs).

The graphics are not bad at all. Some areas have low textures, but other\'s are kick ass ( take a look at Margarette:)).

By completeing the game you get "Extra\'s". The Silent Hill 2 demo video may be one of them.....but I can\'t say for sure.

Later.

Hey I completely agree. I like the game\'s idea. It\'s definitely interesting.

Not every place looks bad I know.. when you enter houses it looks nice, it\'s just when you\'re running around town.

I already forgot, but that was the blonde right? Or the brunette in the past? The characters have this eerie cool look to them.

I picked it up tonight, and I\'m in love with it. It is original and a nice change of pace. A true sleeper hit.
Heh. Everytime I play it , it reminds me of the show "Quantum Leap". God, I loved that show.
