A comment...and a question if you don\'t mind...
« Reply #15 on: March 17, 2001, 06:27:24 AM »
First off, may I say "I\'m hating work!"  Cuz with ATV, Starfighter, Triple Play, and now Onimusha I JUST SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE FORCED TO GO TO WORK!!!  It just seems inhumane!  I mean the torture that is the waiting until 4:30pm is unbearable [not to mention that I\'m a great employee, so I never really seem to leave until 6pm or later  .  --  And lets not even get into the "quality time" that a good husband [dang, me again!] has to offer the spouse once I *do* get home!  Oh, sooo many sweet games.  I can remember chomping at the bit through christmas thinking "when will the GREAT games arrive for PS2"...perhaps the waiting is over.  Now I just hope this continues to be my "problem" for the next few years! :p

Okay, comment first:  Jeepnrocks (and numerous others) have indicated that they don\'t think it is as scary as the other RE series.  But isn\'t this simply a matter of fact?  I thought Capcom was outing Onimusha as "something else".  In other words, yes Capcom made a number of RE games/sequels.  But they also made Dino Crisis.  Did I miss something?  Was Dino Crisis a spin on RE or its own game with less "scare" and simply more "action"?  Similarly, I had gathered that Onimusha is a game set in feudal Japan with its "own" story that does not have anything to do with RE.  No zombies, per se.  No terrible corporation creating biohazardous mutations, etc.  Onimusha is its own story...its own game...with its bent on action more than scare, and that action being not of dinos but of demons.  Am I missing something?

Now, the question:  [and please SOMEBODY read and answer this -- don\'t get bogged down in the comment above and overlook answering this question please! Thanks!]  Since I am a poor, ignorant, american with no purposeful skills in the japanese language... :p ... how exactly am I to decipher the challenges/riddles/Q&As that exist in those chests next to the mirrors, etc.?  I mean, yeah, I got lucky ONCE so far...but its all been a frustrating bout of trial & error...simply mashing permutations.  Bleh!  Is there any way to decipher this japanese text short of *learning* it???  Did I miss turning off/on a certain option at the beginning of the game?  How does Capcom really expect me to honestly answer their historical questions they pose?  Appreciate the ear...looking forward to the "hear".

w1ngman,

To decipher those codes you\'ll need "books" that are found elsewhere in the game. After you find a few volumes then you head back to the treasure chest to answer the question.

I got through with the girl without using any herbs. The key was to run when you can and fight them one at a time. Don\'t let them gang up on you. Now I\'ve got 5 medicine. Dark Realm here I come.

I wish there was a mode that you could activate to play only as the chick.
She rocks in my opinion.
I didnt lose ANY life when I played as her, you just have to be smart about how you fight with her.
To beat the minotaurs in the Dark Realm use the matchlock with burst shot.
You should have lots of bullets so you shouldnt really need to worry about running out.
Thats how I beat most of the hard levels in the dark realm.
Those and soul absorers.
Soul Absorbers rock.
So do talismans.

Thanks Raysmd.  Actually, about an hour or so after I posted that question I started coming across those books.  Noticed their english phrases had correlating japanese characters that matched ones I\'d seen when attempting to open the chests.  You\'re right,...now I just have to go back to the chests, etc.  Thanks again!  Enjoyable game!

To Faithdies,
Wait till you clear the mini-game. You\'ll get to use the B-sword and goodies, one of w/c is to have 99 Soul Absorbers at the beginning of the game

* * * * * * * * * * MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!!! * * * * * * * * *

She\'s not that bad once you learn how to use her.  First off, don\'t try to fight every monster with her!  I do quite a bit of running with her.  I can do pretty good with her now and only use maybe 2, 3 herbs tops.

Take you time and find all of the Flourites the first time through!  This will unlock the mini-game, Oni Spirits where you can fight your way through to win the Bishimon sword.  It\'s the equivalent of the Rocket Launcher from RE.  You DO want this don\'t you?  You should have 15 flourites BEFORE you open the door with that weird Blue plate.  If not, go back and find them BEFORE you enter that area.  You will find the other 5 in the new section of the town.

You will also come across "Talisman"  Get them!  If you die they will bring you back to life!  The is a secret one hidden in the dock area too!  Sammy will come to an area where they bridge is up and he can\'t cross.  use an arrow or bullets to shoot the rope and drop the bridge.  I think the is a chest there.  Go to the back wall and slash the scroll on it.  You will find the Talisman behind it.  There are some hidden things like this throughout the game with books and other items hidden behind them so feel free to slash the wall to make sure that you aren\'t leaving anything behind.

My best time was 2:43, with the Bishimon sword of course.

When trying to get the Bishimon sword prepared to be frustrated!  But it can be done.

Other extras (at least with the import version)

1. Open the Easy Mode (got it before I even completed the game?)

2. Open the Hard mode
....Infinite arrows and fire arrows
....Infinite bullets and burst bullets
....99 Soul Absorbers

3. Unlock Special suit for Samenosuke
4. Unlock special suit for Kaeda
5. Unlock Onimusha 2 trailer (really isn\'t much)

I just have to say, I am thoroughly enjoying the hell out of Onimusha. If that game was a smooth legged cheerleader who\'s name is Onimusha, I\'d say "I am vigorously enjoying the hell out of Onimusha."

This game is fun.

Note : I know I can get yellow spirits to refill my life bar by successfully countering the enemy\'s attack. But is there another way to get yellow spirits? I can\'t always counter when I want to since some take so long to attack me.
