Well, my most anticipated PS2 game Winning Eleven 5 is out in Japan, although it probably won\'t make it\'s way to North America until next year (if ever).

Here\'s some vids for the soccer fans - quite low quality, and Winning Eleven has always been about the gameplay, but you can see the overall details:

For some reason, whoever was playing really turned up the speed.

Oh yes, and the game got a Famitsu Gold Award, getting 34 out of 40 - (8,9,8,9).

WOW! This game looks very impressive. Is it coming stateside? If the gameplay is as good as everyone claims this is a definate must buy.

I thinks its funny that I don\'t play soccer and I don\'t find watching soccer games to be any fun but I always buy soccer video games cuz they tend to kick ass.

It won\'t be coming stateside for a while unfortunately - probably not until next year, since it won\'t be out in Europe until the fall.

However, a PS2 port of the PSX Winning Eleven 2000 that came out in Japan prior to this game (WE5) will be out later this month (26th) - it\'s called ESPN MLS ExtraTime.

The gameplay in the Winning Eleven/ISS Pro series has always been some of the best in sports gaming, and the game is first and formost a sim, rather than EA Sports\' Fifa which is an arcade representation of soccer.

KCET\'s lead programmer;  Shingo "Seabass" Takatsuka (the sports gaming equivalent of a Miyamoto or a Kojima) has stated that the game is going to get a substancial improvement (graphics wise) for the European release.

He didn\'t mention a North American release :(

ah, sucka.

I think it\'s getting released in the european zones around october or so.

I\'m getting my PS2 in june (I\'m going to japan, I\'ll pick up a PAL one from a shop I know of over there) and then I can save my money and ask for it as a birthday present! BONUS.

I still gotta get ISS Pro2, but know I think I might wait for WE5 whatever it\'s gonna be called.

I\'ll rent ISS2, but might not buy it.
I\'m still trying new things out on ISS. Changing my style of play dramatically. I used to be a runner mostly, now I pass and dribble more.
I\'ve also got those free kicks shots down to a tee in the 30m range with Rui Costa. You should have seen twice in the match I done these in-swingers, it was awsome.
I also only found out the the SWERVE stat is how good they are at swinging the ball.

G-R,
I\'ve been playing ISS Pro Evo 2 (I\'ve got Winning Eleven 2000 U23 Olympic) it\'s bloody incredible - almost a completely different game from ISS Pro Evo, absolutely incredible. Shooting, dribbling, passing and AI have all been improved, as have the animations and the stadiums are fabulous. The master league is also expanded.

Man, I\'m so disapointed I\'ll have to wait for WE5, but at the same time I\'m excited about ESPN MLS ExtraTime - I believe it\'ll be just the same as WE 2000 U23 Olympic, but with better graphics and MLS teams - even so, I\'m pumped!

Be sure to let me know when you do finally get to play WE5.

:)

Only problem I see with the game (WE4 2000 U23) is that it slows down in 4 player mode pretty bad (makes it unplayable), but I hear that will be corrected for the ISS Pro Evo 2 release.

It don\'t matter cos I don\'t play 4 player. I rarely play 2 player with my brother (cos I beat the **** outta him, he thinks he\'s better but I keep winning all the time, even when he\'s euro all stars and I\'m japan, well, it was one win each, but still....)
And I don\'t have 4 friends that play this game. I don\'t have any friends that play this game actually. Actually, I\'m the only one in my town (of 3500 people) to have this game.

And I don\'t have a multitap.

Could you answer a few things for me about your version of the game, I\'ll send a PM in the next day or so.

Hey what\'s up buddy? Personal message only lets me have messages of max 1000 characters and I\'m on the go so I\'ll just post my answers here. Sorry mate.

1) Master League is kind of like how you said, you start in the Second Division (you can select each team in the division yourself, or randomly). Then it\'s like regular master league, however when you win a game in Division 2 you get LESS points to spend on players than normal (I think it\'s only 6 player points a game). The top 2 teams in Division 2 go up and the bottom 2 in Division one go down. The bottom team in division 2 stays in the division. Once in division one you get the normal amount of points for winning games (8 points to spend on players + bonus). Other stuff that\'s been improved have been more stats (of both Division 1 & 2) and live scores updates (of the other games in the league) at half time and full time when you\'re playing.

2)Yes 24 teams, I think 6 in Division 2 and 18 in Division 1. Batigol is in Fiorentina in this game, but I am sure he will be in Roma for the proper ISS Pro Evo 2 release because WE2000U23 is more than 6 months old now. A lot of new players have been added to the rosters.

3)2 types of injuries -  a bad one (red cross) and a normal injury (yellow cross). If you get a bad injury the player cannot continue and may be injured for several games, a normal injury and he can keep playing but he\'ll be crap. Injuries don\'t happen that often though which is unrealistic.

4)I\'ve only played Master League and exhibition, so I don\'t know any secret teams, once I unlock some I\'ll let u know.

5)I haven\'t noticed, again when I play next I\'ll let u know - but the referees are really really strict, almost too strict for my liking and you can get sent off easily if you\'re reckless. There are more different types of fouls - shirt pulling, shoving etc - but not violently like Fifa, they\'re still very realistic.

6) The game itself is amazing, dribbling is a lot easier but to compensate the defenders are even smarter. Passing and shooting are even more realistic and you really have to know which is your player\'s favourite foot, and the positioning of the ball makes a huge difference - scoring from far is much harder. Aftertouch (curl) can be done really well depending on the player, and the ball physics have been greatly improved - there are so many more types of goals you can score it\'s crazy - diving headers, bicycle kicks and spectacular volleys are a tiny bit easier to do now - I love it. The goalkeepers and players have more animations, and there are more details such as Totti\'s headband etc. The stadiums are also incredible.

It\'s sucks that the 4 player is crap though, 3 of my friends weren\'t even soccer fans but after ISS PE they love soccer and the game - we play every weekend it\'s great. Maybe one day in a few years, when the PS2\'s broadband kicks into gear we can play each other online in WE6. ;)

I\'m going to be really busy these next two weeks because I have exams, assignments, and (eek) med school interviews. I\'ll try to check the board when I can and answer any other questions.

Cheers,
Lavan
