This is more proof that the GameCube simply isn\'t living up to the hype. It doesn\'t have AC-3 and each sound effect took like three-minutes to load, which doesn\'t bode well for the system\'s load times. Maybe Nintendo should stick with carts...

hmmm, the unconfirmed sound setup sounds bad,but what disturbs me more is the load time that\'s mentioned, this will piss off gamers more than anything else..if it turns out to be true

O come on, who cares about loading times, I have loads of patience. And the gamcube was never hypes as said in the article ;)

and its from ignps2, they make crap up these days, hence the xbox delay news. Its most likely BS

Unless there is an issue at E3 then I am fine.  Most likely:

a)  It was a demo and the hardware still needs tweaking

b)  Nintendo was pushing the hardware too hard.  My understanding is that the demo was breathtaking so it is conceivable since I cannot remember the last time I heard a sound that I considered "Breathtaking".

I dont think the Gamecube will have a problem with sound.
If I remember correctly, they have 16mb of Ram dedicated to audio.
But I could be wrong.

IGNPS2 is a completely biased site. They constantly have the urge to put down other systems(NGC, Xbox). They\'re morons and everything they say should be taken as a joke.

What hype????

They shouldn\'t be the ones talking about other systems not living up to the hype....

jumpman you are 100% right, gamecube wasn\'t hype (a really good thing). And gc news is none of ignps2\'s business, so they should shut up!

I\'m sorry but I personally think ps2 lived up to the hype :)

IGN Ps2 is just talking a bunch of crap. From the people who were there and heard the sound demonstrations, they thought it was pretty good. And they didn\'t mention anything about 3 minute load times either.

There are some things to consider when listening to the demos, too. First, the acoustics and speakers in the meeting room were pretty poor. Part of the reason Thomas sounds so bad on my recording is because the sound in the room was hardly stellar, though the demos sounded pretty cool despite these shortcomings. Second, the demos were actually created before Spaceworld so the audio wizards at Factor 5 should be doing even better stuff now. Third, the demos were done in real-time without using much of the processor so you can fully expect to hear audio of this quality (and probably better) during actual game play.

That was from PGC.... They also got their lucky hands on one of those prototype GC Controllers..

That IS definitely a bunch of crap. For one thing it says Factor 5 gave an explanation, but just because they didn\'t like it (or didn\'t understand) it, the question was left unanswered.

Factor 5 has given the explanation before (and you don\'t have to have a "Nintendo" tatoo to understand it). AC-3 was NOT designed with interactive games in mind, it was designed for pre-recorded movies. Because of that, it has a relatively high latency time. As such, you could expect a slight delay between events on the screen, and the sound effects. So a character could shoot out some glass, and then just a tad bit later you hear it shatter. Obviously that would be pretty annoying and I\'m sure they\'d have a much better time bashing the GC if that was the case.

As for the loading times, games need to be optimized to improve load times. It makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever for them to put that effort into a sound demo. But also, it\'s hard to tell how that time was broken down. Did it take 3 minutes to load, or did it take slightly less than that for Factor 5 to start it up?

I hadn\'t noticed that it was PS2.IGN... They have really taken to reporting negative rumors about other systems.  And you are totally right about the "hype" JumpMan; Nintendo continues to leak vague information through their 2nd party developers and have done nothing to create any ludicrous hype.  In fact, any direct comments from Nintendo have been anti-hype as far as hardware is concerned.

Nintendo doesn\'t really hype its systems at all. Look at the Game Boy Advance! No one was dissapointed because the system wasn\'t overhyped by Nintendo or the media. The fat is, Playstation 2 may be a good system, but it was SO overhyped that many were slightly dissapointed by what they got in the first few months.

Same goes for The Phantom Menace; it was a good movie, but was seriously overhyped, thus rejected by many... It also wasn\'t as good as the original trilogy, but if it weren\'t compared to them it would have been better liked.

Yeah they are. hahaha

remember the FMV quality, real life graphics with Ultra 64? hahaha (U64, :D)

or the stereo quality music with SNES.

or the non-mind melting graphics of Virtual Boy (mine melted my brian quite quickly!).

yes, indeed, the kings of hype.

:D very true, that was like the most hyped system ever!! i saw it on just about every news channel how the console was to be mind boggling.. :) public got screwed over bigtime..haha!
also about the news topic that i posted, just where are you supposed to get "unbiased" news on any system on the net? hmmm!? that is pathetic to say ps2/ign makes up things or posts rumors only,i don\'t always agree with them (like with their past remarks of Tekken looking horrible) but you can\'t dismiss everything they say. every gaming site has their days of good and bad,how do you know exactly that they are wrong, did any one of you attend that showing personally?? ok then...
