first impressions: MDK2: Armegeddon

ok just for the record, a few years ago i played the demo for MDK before it even came out for the PC, i found it to be awesome and the story line brought no humor. it was just snipe the enemy. i remember what it looked lik every well, amd i compared it to MDK2 grpahics wise to see the difference, here it goes.

well i got the game last night and played it for about 2 hours, you get to play as 3 characters: the janitor wich is the main character, the robot dog wich is a side character, and the proffesor wich created the dog and made the suite. the controls were very okward at first and i couldnt get the hang of it, to move around you have to use the d-pad "wich i did no like 1 bit" and to look up and down you have to use the right analog stick, you can side stride with L2 and R2, go into snipe mod with circle, shoot with x, jump and use the parachute with square, and finally change the inventory with L1 and R1.
It is really confusing, and it was hard for me just to start moving around cause of the d-pad, but the first level is sort of a training level to get you used to it. if you a d-pad using man then it should be easy t get used to, but if your an analog type guy like me, then you\'ll have trouble at first.

the graphics look really nice, and look a bit better than the PC graphics, the particle effects are great, there is no slowdown that i have encountered yet, and the bad guys look good, but when you go into snipe mode and zoom up to them they look really blocky wich i didnt like. and the bosses so far are huge and its full of action, when you shoot your gun shells go flying, its really fast paced, the robot dog has 4 arms so you can equipe 1 -4 guns on him at once, and let me tell ya, when you have 4 uzi\'s in hand blowing the hell out of these aliens it sucks you into the gamplay.

the gameplay itself is pretty interesting so far, as well as challenging, but it tries to be funny wich i dont rememebr at all the demo trying to be funny, like the proffesor is a crack and says some funny sh!t, but most of the time its kinda corny, i just ignore it and keep going.

the story line basically starts off as you have finished saving the world from the first one, but then as soon as you think you one, everything gets shot to hell and you gotta start all over, there is this really big purple guy with pink shades, i guess hes the main boss in the end, so far its pretty smooth.

well thats all i can say for now, im going to play it a bit more right now and tell you guys more as i push on, another thing i noticed is everyone was saying, oh im gonna get this game!, and nobody did? well i got it and right now i will give my ratings so far

controls: 7.5
graphics: 8
gameplay: 8
storyline: have yet to make an judgment

total 8.0 out of 10

Well I\'m used to playing this game at 1600x1200 with 2x FSAA,so is the game blurry on the PS.2?That seems to be a problem with PC ports they are to damn blurry.I guess they do that to hide the fact that the textures aren\'t as good, but it get\'s on my nerves.
I recently discovered that my ass is the key to the universe.....now I must fight to protect my ass from those who might abuse it!!!

i have gone a bit farther now in the game, im on level three and so far the game is freaking hard, its been a while since i played such a challenging game, you have to figure out some puzzles and stuff, right now i am on level three and im the proffesor, the aliens have penerated my ship and i have to stop them, this game really make you think. as the proffesor you have to pick up all these items and try to put them together to make different weapons, its kind of hard at first but then you get used to it, im actually starting to get addicted ot the game, a feeling wich i havent had in a while :), i am actually starting to like the comedy.. well some of it at least. now to answer questions:

to tell you th truth its not blurry at all, since i have gon farther into the game the area of the maps look really nice, the characters look cool to, but the proffesor model looks a bit crappy in the waist area, but the other models look sweet,

ok ill post more info later

I\'ve only played the MDK2 demo (for DC), and I have to say that it completely owns.  You can tell from the get go that it is a truly difficult game (which I like),  and I plan on picking it up soon.  Too bad they canceled LoK: SR 2 for DC :(.  Oh well, at least I can get the original.
It seems as if the people [casual gamers] that we consider to know absolutely nothing are the ones that actually know the most important thing: Name brands don\'t make the console, games do.

I have MDK2 for Dreamcast and it\'s an excellent game, but the only problem is that it\'s extremely hard.  I was thinking about picking it up for the PS2 but it\'s basically the same game.  Atleast the PS2 version has difficulty settings.  It\'s a great game.

I bought MDK (the original) the day it came out for the computer. Loved it. Bought MDK2 for the DC soon as it came out and loved it. It truly is a great series, and I may check out the port for the PS2.

Cool Unknown!!  Your review sounds good,  I just read at IGN.com that they review this game and they said that the DC back grounds look better than the PS2.  Take a look at the back grounds and see if it looks like flat 2D.  I have to know this is true.  :D

Keep us informed, Unknown - as I\'m waiting MDK2 in anticipation. And I\'m glad to hear it\'s HARD and challenging... Because the first one - yes, it was hard on some parts - wasn\'t so challenging to keep you going really long.

I should now decide either to buy Zoe or MDK2 :)

So, keep me informed this week, and I will decide...

to give you my honest opinion, get MDk2, it will last a whole lot longer than Z.O.E. i can tell you that much, this game kicks so far, it really is hard and i have it on normal! im stuck again and this time i have as to no clue what im supposed to do, there are ten levels  and im on level 4 now. well i never played the DC version so i have no idea what the DC walls look like, so i cant give my opinion, but they do look a little bit 2d, none the less the graphics looks sweet. damn this game is hard :)

Thanx for the infos Unknown. I was looking for some info about this game, and I didnt see your thread, so I posted a new one...

In your first post, ou\'re speaking about tricky controls...are you getting used to it now?

So, if I sum it up, it\'s basically an action and reflexion game, is it?

IS there a lot of variety, or is it repetitive?

it is not repetitive since i have been playing, it just throws a grip of hard ass puzzles & challenges at you and , you really got to use your head, im still stuck on level 4 and iv been trying the same puzzle challenge for about 2 hours, i have no idea what to do, yea you get used tot he control scheme after a while so thats good, i have only found one con so far, when you go into sniper mode, you can only look so far up, like 90 degrees up, wich sucks in a way cause if somehting goes past your view you have to back up or re postition,
yes it is a fast paced action game, i love it so far.
