Porting PS2 game to the Xbox = Easy?
« on: April 13, 2001, 06:16:05 PM »
There is so much debate about in this paragraph that I thought it had to be posted here:

http://xbox.ign.com/news/33448.html

"First, a funny little bit of information regarding Team Ninja\'s development of the game. According to the magazine, Team Ninja received their Xbox development kits and wanted to test them out. So what would you do in this situation? Right - port your latest game to the new system as quickly as possible. And that\'s what Team Ninja did. Two members of the team got to work on a port of Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore from the PS2 to the Xbox. It took just two months to port everything but the sound, and when all was said and done, the game was running at 130 frames per second! On the PS2 and Dreamcast, the game runs at 60 frames per second (your eye tends to not notice the additional frames beyond this)."

This would suggest that porting games over to the Xbox from the PS2 is not the chore many of us (myself included) once thought.  Plus of course the framerate portion is interesting (although to assume that this is the case for each game would be ludicrous).

BS..A human eye cannot see 130 fps. And team ninja took one month YES ONE MONTH! do port DOa2 from the easy naomi to the o so difficult ps2! They said that they don\'t have any problems with ps2\'s hardware :)

Perhaps not, but:
1-Im sure some people can see above 60, and
2-That wasnt the point, the point was the ease of porting, and the power of the system. Port something to PS2, its not great. PS2 games must be built from the ground up to run decently. XB can be ported to easily, with a lot of power to spare. I think thats what theyre saying.

I think the article is misleading. For starters, DOA2 was originally made on Naomi. Was a quick port to PS2 + some enhancements. If Tecmo had done it from the ground up, and originally for the PS2, it would have been even better.

Its from a DC magazine (the news), so why would a DC mag... esp. a jap one, say anything remotely pro XB unless it was true?

I have to lean towards DM\'s opinion here... It wasn\'t made on PS2 ground up. But it is interesting nevertheless. It would just have been more interesting with a game that was made for PS2 originally.

I don\'t think it was a pro-anything really. They\'re just using faulty logic.

Think of the source of the game; from Naomi to PS2 to X-box. The article should have said that porting Naomi to X-box was easy. Hell, as hard as the PS2 is supposed to be, Tecmo did a pretty damn good job porting DOA2 to PS2. The PS2 version is essentially the Naomi version w/better lighting, and some degraded textures. ;)

and let\'s not forget that doa2 hc is not really pushing the ps2 very hard, it doesn\'t use the streaming stuff and all, which I think is the reason why games are ported difficult

It has come to my attention, from reading all psx2 forums out there, that when ever something really positive is shown or said about the box, most(not all) psx2fanboys find a way to put it down, and say **** like, psx2 could do that, or the developers were lazy on that game, etc....

Damn i mean psx2 will have some nice games, but come on give the xbox some credit here.

ps2hahaha;

Once you learn proper grammar and spelling then perhaps I\'ll listen. (or maybe not) .. Dumb troll.

Ogodly;

I\'ll give credit where credit is due. I think that article doesn\'t make sense. DOA2 is not a PS2 game, it\'s a NAOMI/DC game. Put 1 and 1 together.

Thats probably cauuse buttwipes like you actually goto PS2 forums and preach your Xbox gospels over and over and over again

Why not just face the fact that most people could give a giant flying rats ass at your thoughts about pretty much anything ever.

but DOA2:HC is pretty much a slightly enhanced DC game which would port even quicker over to XBox.

130FPS is impressive as hell, I\'m just waiting patiently for XBox to actually show us the power because although things are shaping up, its still not powerful enough to make alot of people want to pick one up

Ps2hahaha that is uncalled for. Why come here to insult. If you want to make good conversation in any way that is not the way to do it. Do you have a PS2? I for one love all gaming platforms. I cannot see bashing or inciting foul feelings like you are putting out. If you talk in a gracious form your point might be heard. The way you are talking will get you banned quickly. Be civil.

you have got to undersand,  130 fps, is IMPOSSIBLE on X box HArdware.... that requires such processor speed.... that x box dosent have, gamecube , mabye, it has the most powerful cpu, x box\'s is the slowest. if you look at performance, not mhz. it goes gamecube, ps2, x box, dreamcast.
and DDayrl, he needs to go home....
:D:D:D:D:D:D
IM BACK. you have a problem with that? get in the back.
