I\'m glad to hear that someone prefers Kubrick\'s version to that lame 1997 TV movie (the one featuring Steven Weber and Rebecca DeMornay).  Some of my friends who are primarily Steven King fans think the 1997 version is much better "because it\'s more faithful to the book."  GUESS WHAT?  The 1980 version is superior because it was directed by Stanley Kubrick and filmed by John Alcott.  Kubrick\'s version is just scarier, no doubts.

It\'s not Kubrick\'s best though.  See The Killing and Paths of Glory if you haven\'t already.

Bah. I don\'t like the movie because Kubrick directed it. I love it because it\'s The Shining and that was my favorite book of all time:)

And even though I don\'t like the fact that Kubrick seems to intentionally divert course from the book through the entire movie, goddamnit Jack Nicholson is, was, and will always be the only actor who could ever play the role of Jack Torrance. Steven Weber sucks. Rebecca deMornay was much better as Wendy though. The fat kid who played Danny in the miniseries needs to die, Danny Lloyd forever:D

Still in all, the movie was great, the book was ten times better. The Miniseries was faithful, and I liked that aspect, but Kubrick\'s was definitely scarier. Those twin girls in the hallway... *shudder*
