Problems with the PS2
« on: April 29, 2001, 07:05:27 PM »
:confused:My buddy has a PS2 Problem,
when he watched gladiator, it freezes on the Mark of the  Leigon Scene(btw he tried on his dvd player and it played fine)
He sent it in to sony and they supposedly fixed the problem.

:boom:Only, when he got it back, it still began skipping and couldn\'t read the disc.

:crap:Also, how does the auto diagnosis work,  we tried that to no avail.

well, tell your buddie to either sweat it out till they come out with the DVD driver updates, or you can call sony back up and tell them he sent it in before and it still does the same thing, they might give you a brand new PS2, but dont take my word for it, sorry for the problems as well, i wish everyone could be as fortunate to have a flawless PS2

The one time I\'ve dealt with sony\'s customer care, I was exremely pleased.  No, I haven\'t had PS2 hardware problems, this was something else, but I have no doubt that if you get on the phone and talk to a high level rep or email them they will fix your problem for you (whether it means sending it in again or them replacing it).  Sony stores and Sony itself is one of the few companies that still care about getting unhappy customers.

I dont know what Sony you called Fatal, i got the worst service ever trying to find a replacement, offical stereo av cable. They kept giving me numbers to other places to call within Sony and i was looping around. I had to order it off a US site because apparently the offical cables cant be found in canada or any eb here

have you noticed that problem??

I feel sorry for you, my PS2 has had no problem what so ever. My Gladiator works just as good as all my other DVDs. I suggest you go back to the store you got it from and get a new one.

I went to sony\'s customer care through the online mail system.  I find phone tag irritating.  If you spend a couple hours on the phone, you can usually fix the problem, but just write an online email, give \'em 48 hours, and that way you will be speaking to a rep that will deal with you for however long you need.

My rep was Karen, she was very helpfull, and we exchanged about 5 emails over 4-5 days.  Got the problem solved.

Ah DVD players have to be the most temprimental thing ever created by man, i am just Glad that Nuclear Missiles don\'t have the same control system as a common DVD player THen we would be in trouble.

i must say that my PS2 has had it\'s problems with some disks but hey you just show me one DVD player that can play everything without a problem !

the best advice is to wait for a UPdate disk with new drivers from SONY !

I had the same problem with mine, I have also had problems with Private Ryan, Gladitor, and Scary Movie.

On the gladitor DVD, I dont know if its the same scene as your having problems with,  but its when maximus is done fighting after he has been captured, and that old dude is telling him about Rome or something, then it freezes for several seconds, then it starts again and you see the gladitors in the carrage heading out to the collisum.

I have not sent mine back to sony for repairs, but I have noticed that the only time my dvd skips scenes is when its in the vertical position. Once I make more room and set it flat down the DvD seems to work alot better.
If your friends ps2 is in the vertical position, try this and see if there is any difference.

My friend is sending his PS2 back tomarrow and they said they are going to replace most of the ps2.

To clear things up, The Gladiator DVD is fine,  it plays on my PS2 and his DVD player like i said,

He can\'t take it back to the store because he ordered it off of the internet.
And, when he first got the PS2.
he had the 1.30U dvd drivers and it didnt work
Sends it back and the "fixed" ps2 has 1.20U driver??
Thus my earlier theory about driver problems is unfounded.

Stay tuned for update after he gets the PS2 back.
Oh yeah,  My friend is under the alias of Blah Blah.
