CoreMagazine.com: What is the target frame rate for the final version of Halo? What frame rate has the latest beta copies been running at?
Matt: All the builds so far have a frame rate cap at 30 FPS, which as you can imagine is well within the Xbox\'s capabilities. The final frame rate hasn\'t really been determined yet; it\'ll be as high as we can make it (within reason of course).
If the final version is in fact running @30fps.. then that is a huge let-down for me. I expect nothing less than 60fps in these next-gen all-mighty consoles. I know some of you don\'t care about framerates but it\'s a huge factor for me. Why can\'t the all mighty superpowerful better than GeForce 3 run games @ 60fps? I\'d be saying the same thing if MGS2 / GT 3 / etc were running @ 30fps. Shenmue disappointed me w/the framerate.
** Now the X-box hardware wasn\'t finalized before, and the kits were unfinished, so it\'s possible that the 30fps is temporary. Normally though, whatever framerate a game is running @ in production, stays the same. I\'ve never seen a game bumped from 30 to 60.
I\'m not sure of anyone\'s expectations or standards here, but for
me 60fps has become the norm. For those that can\'t even notice the difference from 30 to 60, please don\'t bother replying.
