Halo - 30fps? A huge disappointment for me.

CoreMagazine.com: What is the target frame rate for the final version of Halo? What frame rate has the latest beta copies been running at?

Matt: All the builds so far have a frame rate cap at 30 FPS, which as you can imagine is well within the Xbox\'s capabilities. The final frame rate hasn\'t really been determined yet; it\'ll be as high as we can make it (within reason of course).

If the final version is in fact running @30fps.. then that is a huge let-down for me. I expect nothing less than 60fps in these next-gen all-mighty consoles. I know some of you don\'t care about framerates but it\'s a huge factor for me. Why can\'t the all mighty superpowerful better than GeForce 3 run games @ 60fps? I\'d be saying the same thing if MGS2 / GT 3 / etc were running @ 30fps. Shenmue disappointed me w/the framerate.

** Now the X-box hardware wasn\'t finalized before, and the kits were unfinished, so it\'s possible that the 30fps is temporary. Normally though, whatever framerate a game is running @ in production, stays the same. I\'ve never seen a game bumped from 30 to 60.

I\'m not sure of anyone\'s expectations or standards here, but for me 60fps has become the norm. For those that can\'t even notice the difference from 30 to 60, please don\'t bother replying.

exactly... there\'s just no way they\'d let it be anything but 60 fps... if they\'re intelligent.

This is the flagship title, upon which a lot of the Xbox\'s reputation rests, if it ended up at 30 fps it\'d be a laughing stock.... they wouldn\'t do that.

I\'m talking about the legions of sony and nintendo fans who speak based on figures. Xbox fans have fought the others for months now with games like halo. If it ended up 30 FPS, then DAMNIT the Xbox would be in for a slamming. A good slamming at that. You say that if it ended up 30 fps (which it won\'t), you wouldn\'t pay it out??? [mysterious voice]I know you too well young bobby, you definitely would [/voice]

now I lost my train...

This is like the Red Faction 30 FPS disappointment.  I wish developers would realize that framerate is more important than graphics.

yes, but the developers doing red faction are going to push that framerate up as much as they can... this is just the same, mabye with the finalized chipset, they can find the REAL POWER all those x box fanboys were talking about ;) (remember? the one that would make the x box 3 times better than ps2?)
hehe... funny media people

ack...shouldn\'t Halo be running at 90 fps then,i.e..3 times the power :D ??!! LoL,j/k...but seriously,if it does, that is like bad news for the console, people will have no faith in it from the start (the graphic thing has already bit them from behind with the media, this will cause low blows to the gut with other industry types),this is a game that has been in development for a long time.

I\'m just glad to see I\'m not the only one concerned about framerates.

I\'m sure that they won\'t release their flagship game at 30 fps.  They would probably rather tone down the graphics or action on screen, before they would do that.  Besides, if they haven\'t had a problem keeping it limited to 30 fps, when they turn the limiter off, who knows where it\'ll run.  I\'m sure they\'ll do their best to get it to 60.

can YOU distinguish betwen 30 and 60fps? I doubt it.

It isn\'t the fact that the developers are making it 30fps that would make the game run less smooth or fast or pretty, it is how they program it. Look at Test Drive Le Mans and F355. both very quick racers, one 30fps, the other 60.

I don\'t want to get into this "how fast your eye can see" argument again, but yes, I can tell the difference between 30 and 60 FPS.  If there was no difference, then why would developers even try to get their games up to 60 FPS?

I can tell the diference between 30 and 60fps.

There was an artical about it in OPS2M I think :)
With the developer of GT3..

I think its ironic how all the great looking PS2 games run at a solid 60fps (GT3, MGS2, FFX, WipeOut) when all the not so good looking games have terrible fps.

Well, I guess its the quality of the developers.

it is NOTHING like the red faction disappointement. IF Halo was only to be 30 fps, that would be a FAR greater disappointment. They are completely different games, Halo is extremely fast pased, and NEEDS a high framerate. Red Faction is slower based, that framerate isnt needed, but would be appreciated

He\'s right ya know. Halo will have more action and a more intense multiplayer and you can\'t have a great multiplayer game this generation with only 30fps. I had to suffer the constant slow downs of PD and Goldeneye, I don\'t want to experience that again in this time around.

They better get it up to 60fps, thats for sure.
