Game Network goes live in the UK!
The UK\'s first 24-hour television channel dedicated to videogames and online gaming goes live today May 8th 2001 on the digital satellite platform.
Game Network, Europe\'s premier daily free-to-air digital satellite TV channel, will be available to UK viewers for the first time from Tuesday, May 8th.
The channel, owned by leading Italian interactive entertainment company Digital Bros, will be accessible on satellite channel number 223 of Sky digital?s Electronic Programme Guide. It features news, reviews, previews and magazine-style programmes.
Jeremy Wigmore, European Managing Director of Game Network, said: "This first UK broadcast is the culmination of a great deal of hard work and we are very pleased to be on air. We have a lot of plans for the channel and this is just the start. The channel that you will see when we go live will not be the same one you will see in a few months; we will be constantly evolving to reflect changes within the market, consumer demands and feedback from the industry."
Game Network is already available free-to-air in over 44 countries throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa via the Eutelsat satellite. The channel was launched in Italy in September 1999 and has built up an estimated audience of 300,000 in Southern Europe. Game Network has already generated advertising from a wide range of leading youth brands, including Sony, adidas, Nike and Swatch.
In addition to the digital TV broadcast, Game Network will also be available 24-hours a day to web users via a streaming video feed through the channel?s dedicated website,
