100 titles planned for Gamecube??
« on: May 09, 2001, 01:21:16 PM »
On the May 7th rumour section of the Nchronicles, the editors state that about 100 titles are currently planned for the GC, while 45 are already in development. Their source was IGNInsider, so can anyone who pays for the service verify if this is true??

Looking forward to the GC myself, I hope the news is true. As long as 50 of those games aren\'t Pokemon. :D

God I hope Gamecube games are cheap! not that $49.99 standard. That\'s expensive!!! Anyway count me in. nintendo makes the best games, and I\'ve always been a fan.

I\'d tank Nintendo\'s walls if they allowed even one Pokemon title (although that\'s inevitable). 12 days to E3; I\'m praying that my 2 years of patience for Nintendo pays off with the Cube.

I\'ll bet the farm and say since Nintendo is so willing to sell GC at $200 that the games will be about $65

Nintendo needs to make their money somewhere

Post it anyway.  Just post it in pieces.
It seems as if the people [casual gamers] that we consider to know absolutely nothing are the ones that actually know the most important thing: Name brands don\'t make the console, games do.

Actually - and I won\'t offer anything to back this up, if you want proof, find it yourself - Nintendo is set to make a profit on each system, even with a 200 price tag.  I don\'t know, chalk it up to no DVD player or something...

Regardless, I still wouldn\'t doubt it if the games were $60.  While they won\'t be making up for any losses, one might say that "they\'s greedy bastards, ain\'t they?"

We\'ll see, hopefully they cut us some slack ... especially since with gas the way it is, it costs me the extra $20 just to drive to the store!

Once again, I agree with Ddaryl. If Nintendo launchs the system at a low price of $150-$200, they will have to charge more for the games. Take loss in hardware, jack up software price. That is just the way it goes.

Still, the GC digital media *should* cost $39.99-$49.99, something around there. But, I actually doubt it costs that.

Eiksirf already said it but I guess everyone skipped over his post. Nintendo can still make a profit if they sell it for $200. They made a lot of good business deals and they are using some cheap technology.

Just a little food for thought.

A few reasons why I think GC\'s price will be on par or cheaper than PS2\'s or X-Box\'s:

1. Mini-DVD\'s will cost less than an average DVD. Liscensing fees will only cost pennies this time around.

2. Nintendo\'s utilizing some of the cheapest materials out there for the GC hardware (the copper made
"Flipper," for one), while also excluding features that  made/will make the other consoles expensive (DVD, CD player, etc.).

3. Peter Main has stated repeatedely that Nintendo is aiming for a "mass-market friendly" price for the GC.
