PS2 defective?
« on: May 09, 2001, 02:35:30 PM »
Reports out of Japan say that either copies of Gran Turismo 3 or the PS2 lens themselves are at the problem.

Sony will fix the PS2s for about 75 dollars!!!

75 dollars!?!?! To fix a DEFECT? Give me a break, I have always thought little of Sony\'s customer care, and this just reaffirms my thoughts.

I will bet a million dollars to anyone that even if a major defect were found, Sony would NEVER recall them.

Ohhh.... What\'s next ?
I hope Sony and Polyphony learn a lesson from this
and do something to prevent this from happening when
gt3 launches in US and Europe!
BTW. It\'s not the gt3 disc it\'s the Japanese PS2 lens.
How bad is that huh.....
Knotter8 75bucks ? c\'mon.

Yeah, it is the same thing that happened with PS.  I wonder if the majority of the people with problems have their PS2 in an enclosed area like an entertainment center?  It could get too hot in it and wreck the lens.  If it is because of Sony then I really feel bad for them because they are now gonna have to pay to get it fixed when it wasn\'t even their fault.

btw-I think this was already posted a couple days ago;)

Maybe the game damages the DVD lens.  The Japan Z.O.E was a DVD formatted and nothing was wrong with the Japan PS2. Sounds strange to me.   :D

Apparently its because the GT3 DVD is so crammed with data that the older, warn DVD Lens of the Jap PS2 cannot read it properly

inteq - my point I was that Sony wont have to pay for anything, as they will never recall anything, nt even for a larger defect, probably.

BTW, I keep a small fan going on all my systems when I play them.

I found the link for you guys.
It seems to me like the PS2\'s DVD laser is working for me, but it isn\'t as robust as my standalone DVD\'s or computer\'s laser.  It tends to skip at the smallest bit of dirt or begin skipping if I fast forward for more than a minute or two.  It works fine, I just have to clean all the DVDs I watch in my PS2 very well.

This is a repost from a thread in the GT3 forum, where this discussion is goin\' on.
