Should I have bought a Dreamcast?
« on: May 12, 2001, 12:49:01 PM »
Yes, I gave done a similar topic before, but now I have more evidence backing me up, and I am a bit fricked off. Why didn\'t I buy a Dreamcast and play it while waiting for X-Box or NGC?

I am pissed off. I just played Crazy Taxi, and it has tonnes more pop-up in the PS2 version than in the Dreamcast version, and looks a bit worst. Is the PS2 so hard to develope for that Dreamcast ports actually look and slowdown worst on the PS2 than on the Dreamcast? Or is the PS2\'s 4mb graphic chip just ****?

Then, we have MDK2. Sure, it\'s easier to play, but the textures are cack compared to the Dreamcast version. I heard somewhere that the Dreamcast has better texturing abitlity than the PS2, but the PS2 can display more polygons. Who gives a f*ck if the PS2 can display more polygons!? The N64 displayed far less polygons than the PSone, but N64 had better texturing ability and other stuff. So the games looked better.

All current PS2 games could easily work on Dreamcast. Yes, I do believe the MGS2 demo could work on a Dreamcast. Just look at Shemue 2.

YES you should!!!! It had the most original and innovated games of its time. PLUS you can pirate the games very easily. I have over 50 DC games on verbatim CD\'s, and that was like 4 months ago. Get a DC it\'s really cheap right now, and lot\'s of good games for it.

I thought CT looked pretty much the same.... but DC is still a steal regardless. It\'s definitely worth getting.

You should definitely get a DC.

Hmm, If I wanted to I would pick @ that statement, but I\'ll just say this. PSX has better texturing capabilities than the N64. I..must..refrain...from...saying...anymore... ugh..

I just bought a Dreamcast a week ago, since it has great games and they are very cheap now. I\'d recommend you get one before stores get rid of all the software to make room for GC and X-Box.

Copy DC games and you will be annihilated personally by me.

But getting a DC would be undoubtedly the best idea you could do right now. At least you know where it is going and what it has done. The other 3 systems are sketchy at best.

If you are getting a DC with the idea of free games, I would recommend you actually buy them. That way, you can be twice as cool as TheFanboyThing (you already are). But DC with its current state still has better games than PS2.

And dont get a DC for the Texturing abilities, etc. Get it for the excellent games, as PS2 will eventually become tons better than DC in many regards. I guess you could sell your PS2, get a DC and like 10 games though :)

I know how you feel Beasty. But hey, it\'s not GodUglyThing\'s fault that he gets paid $3.00 p/h guarding a Taco Bell. Anyone who resorts to copying games over buying them is a cheap f**k and shouldn\'t pursue gaming as a hobby.

Tell that to half the people here, I remember back in the old days over in the main forum, how many people admitted to pirating games. Fact is alot of people do it here and in any other forums.

Anyhow I do deserve what ever you throw at me, pirating games is for losers, which is why i don\'t do it anymore. But for those of you out there that have pirated computer software, or PSX games you are in no postion to comment.

The main reason why i stopped copying DC games was because i spent more time trying to get the games than actually playing.

Out of the 30-45 dc games i have, I have only really got the chance to play 6 of them, the rest i just coped for the hell of it.

Altredbeat and datamage i bet anything that you have used illegal computer software(unpaid for) or copyed psx games, which you probably wont admit. If i am wrong then sorry.

Ogodly,

I\'d like to thank you for returning with a civilized post. I expected otherwise.

I know how you feel about pirating as well. In the past (before burning + modchips were so common) I had a modded PSX.. back then you weren\'t able to download the iso and burn it @ your convenience. You had to order games from HK. Anyhow, I too became crazed with burning and burning PSX games, till I decided to quit. I gave away all the burned games, and bought the ones I really wanted. It\'s not worth it for the same reason that you mentioned. You\'re so busy piling up your collection of games that you don\'t play them. I\'m also a picky sob and I like to have the original packaging, book, etc.  ;) Believe me, I have the roots of a pirate, but I have gained respect for the industry since my early days.

I just think it\'s shameful to sell-out on SEGA when they have delivered a great system with great games, and then people out there decide to rip them off. I overheard what looked to be like a 11-12 yr old in EB, tell his mother that once she buys him a PSX he has to install a special chip so he won\'t have to buy games. This world is going down the toilet.

Yes it is, which is one of the reason Sega made the DC with a special disk (which undoubtedly raised the cost) and that GC has a special disk (which will undoubtedly be hiher because of it). These stupid punk kids will grow up and realize, woops, I killed half a dozen companies. That you cant get everything you want for free.

ThePiraterThing - No, I had Doom Pirated on my computer, like half the rest of the world. I was a kid then, and realize what I did was stupid and cheap and wrong. I, like Datamage need to have an official product with a box, a label, etc. I find it tiresome when people complain about PSO, well I think reg. numbers are the future in anti-piracy. I have quite an extensive library of Atari ROMs on my PC, which are more than Legal, as Hasbro released the rights on all the games and such. But I have NEVER bought, made, or sold a copied disk in my life. Mind you, I did get screwed out of a trade once, my import Panzer RPG for a copied Thrill Kill, but let\'s just say, we worked that little mess out.

To CS2X,
Your selection of games is not exactly excellent. My newer games are GT3, AC2:AA, B:CV, ZOE and Onimusha, and I am quite happy with these games.
The PS2 is my first console but I have also been thinking of buying a DC. Right now DC sells for 9,800 yen while the PS2 sell for 39,800 yen. But if I buy the DC will I still be playing with this console after a year? Will there be DC games? In the video store near me, the display space for DC games is 1/2 that of PS2 games. As time goes by, the display space for PS2 gets larger while the display space for DC games gets smaller.
I agree with you that the first generation of PS2 games is not that good. However, the newer games are fun to play.
