What was game of the show?
« Reply #30 on: May 21, 2001, 04:37:28 PM »
No way in hell was Luigi game of the show. I\'ve watched 3 or 4 videos and it looks like standard Mario affair with some prettier graphics

and Eternal Darkenss seemed real lame to me, I watched a few videos but besides a high polygon main character and great textures not much really that much to be hyped about from what I\'ve seen

Jak and Daxter was way more impressive, the tremendous scope of the game, the completely animated world,  was significantly better then any other plaformer shown at E3. The game is just not being comprehended by alot of people on just how big and how much is happening simultaneously in real time.

RS2 looks great but MGS2 still is more impressive IMO

Baldurs Gate DA also looked incredible and plays very smooth, the 45mb gameplay movie I watched had me drooling.

XBox definelty had some cool stuff as well but not enough really ready to be shown off.

These are my opinion so lets not attack me to hard.   The more and more I read previews  and watch movies the more I feel SOny had the better show. This doesn\'t mean that GC wasn\'t great in its own or Xbox even in its  positive moments. Its just that SOny had alot of games that haven\'t fully been previewd or shown off in the press cause they\'ve been known about for considerable time.

Heh, it looked better than Jak and Dexter hands down.

What? I thought that game was one of the few GameCube games that you were intrigued by.

Anyhoo, I take it you don\'t know too much about it. Read this preview and some impressions on the game and lets see if you still have the same opinion afterwards.

http://www.planetgamecube.com/previ...n=profile&id=57 preview

http://www.planetgamecube.com/impre...n=profile&id=74 impressions

BTW- I\'m not trying to start anything, I\'m just REALLY bored...

Sure Luigi was confined in a room to room adventure where High polygon models are used. Jak and Daxter is this humongous scope of a game divides its polygons for as far as the eye can see and all that can be seen can be interacted with. Everything alive and well animated.

This is what I expect from some people not grasping the sheer scope and technical brillance that is Jax and Daxter. The game has a heluva alot going on all the time and thats no minor acheivement

Luigi looks great but in comparison. J+D is way more involved IMO.

Raven Blade is one I\'m entrigued by. I got some things mixed up. I downloaded a Eternal Darkness Video from Gamespot and I can\'t say it looks exciting. I\'ll have to see more, but after that video all I could think of is how cool Soul Reaver and Blood Omen look in  comparison. for adventure games

Thats cool your not trying to start nothing cause neither am I. I did like some GC stuff but most of it I could get on the PS2.

We\'ll just have to agree to disagree. but Luigi like all Mario games just doesn;t seem to interest me.

Really?  Funny that there\'s no jump button.  It resembles what a Mario game might look like graphically, but the game is innovative to say the least.  It appears that\'s Nintendo\'s goal, and it\'s about damn time.  I had started to think we\'d  seen all the gaming possibilities out there.

Speaking of innovation, the whole insanity, play-with-the-head-of-the-gamer thing in Eternal Darkness really sets it apart from something like Raven Blade for me.  Raven Blade looks like standard Mar-- err, horror affair to me.  With ED, the character begins "hallucination" but you don\'t know it yet and continue on normally until heads start popping off and walls start bleeding.  Then you "wake up" back where it started, realizing at the same time as your character that your most recent efforts were for nothing.  That\'s cool.

Uhhh, Munch does the same things, and was just as good looking. I will be getting J&D, no doubt, but it\'s just a hop n bop. Munch has much more going for it with being able to posess other characters, and talking with other characters. In addition to the run n jumping hopping n bopping.

Word! That\'s what I\'m talking about!

This game, in my opinion, is the next leap with the survival horror genre. I mean that feature creates a whole new window for developers.

I\'m more interested in it\'s story. I have a feeling that it will be great. After all, the game is 40-60 hours in length. THAT\'S 7-12 TIMES THE AMOUNT OF A TYPICAL HORROR GAME!

This game is on my must buy list and it\'s right sitting on top at position number 1.

Because there\'s no jump button its innovative ?????

I\'ve still yet to see whats innovative about Luigi\'s mansion after all the screens and movies I\'ve seen on top of reading this preview

Nah, seeing both in motion I\'d say Jak and Dakster has much more going on than those stale rooms in Luigi\'s mansion. (which I\'ll be buying anyway)

The point? An opinion isn\'t a fact.

No, because there\'s no jump button it isn\'t standard Mario affair, obviously.

And you\'re right, it\'s not really that innovative.  It\'s just like all the other games set up like Resident Evil, played like Turok, themed after Ghostbusters, and featuring a Nintendo storyline.

Seriously, it\'s not ground-breaking, but is is a new concept (i.e. there hasn\'t been a game like it before).  For a better showing of innovation, though, look to Pikmin, I guess...

Still... the graphics in Luigi\'s Mansion are just plain phenomenal. It\'s still the better LOOKING game from a graphical standpoint. And yes, I\'ve seen both in action.

I\'ve already experienced sheer scope and technical brilliance with Zelda:OOT and MM thank you. ;)  But I\'ll admit it, J&D does look pretty impressive.I\'ll have to read more info on the eternal darkness games, can\'t tell all that from an mpeg

In there somewhere is a preview of the game. You should be a little more interested in it just after reading that. I sure was.

Welp I\'m still unimpressed with Luigi\'s mansion.

Graphically ND could\'ve thrown together a room to room adventure and made the graphics look 5x\'s as amazing as  J+D

As for Zelda I agree the worlds we\'re huge.  The story in O.T. and the kiddie type worlds turned me off from Zelda.

On to Eternal Darkness. The game sounds interesting but details are too thin. Pretty much all I could get from that preview is multiple characters multiple ways to unfold the storylne which gives it replay value.  All the effects they talk about are standard fair on next gen platforms so it doesn\'t really jump out and make me say wow.

I\'m sure lots more details will be released in the near future

This is the kind of stuff I don\'t understand. You say that Zelda is kiddie but you don\'t think J & D is kiddie? How is that?

This is too easy

1st your a Elf and you have a fairy

2nd all the cutesy looking elf people in the early part of the game

3rd the ROck people  where you go doen in the cave play the ocarania and that rock creature does his little dance.  (This is were I threw up)

4th the games dialog and talking to NPC had some moments of feeling extremly kiddie like the some of the rock creatures

I don\'t remember much more but I do remember there were more similiar incidences in Zelda that made me not care for it. I also never finished the game cause it didn\'t draw me in at all

To me Jak and Daxter looks more like a cartoon (I love cartoons) to me, Daxter will do all kinds of funny animation just like Crash did. Crash had kid appeal but Crash\'s attitude his world just appealed to me more.

We can argue this all day but Nintendo just has a way of making there games unappealing to me. This could be changing but I won\'t know for awhile

That\'s pure speculation I certainly disagree with that. Luigi\'s Mansion had so much more going on that you think. The rooms were extremely detailed and very realistic.  Nintendo spended some time with this game.
