Metroid in real-time?

At E3 today, there was some more Metroid footage. However, this one does not appear to be FMV, it looks like it\'s in real-time. Check \'em out.














I think GameCube is definitely capable of these kind of graphics, in fact, I honestly think Luigi\'s Mansion looks a little better than these shots! They\'re still impressive, but the textures could use some improving.

So what do you think? Fake or real?

I would say all real apart fgrom the last 3 pics,(one pic at the end didnt load up),but not bad at all.
Jumpman you give me the impression that you really like the gamecube?is that going to be your choice this generation?or do you have a ps2 already?

p.s ok the pic just loaded up,i would say 3,4 and 6 are not real time,what do you all think?

GameCube is definitely my choice for the next-generation system to own. I could of bought a PS2 last year but my friend has one and I thought most of the games were crap so decided to go with DC instead(a very smart move IMO). PS2 just doesn\'t have any must have titles that I can really get into. I might buy one down the road when the price significantly drops but until then I\'m just gonna ride off NGC. It\'s all about preference and I prefer Nintendo\'s 1st and 2nd party  games over Sony\'s and their exclusive 3rd parties\'. I\'m not biased, I\'m just making the choice that I think is best for me.

All of them look a lot worst than the earlier FMV pics so I think they\'re all real-time. I think NGC can achieve this kind of quality.

I think they\'re real-time. Looks great, but @ the same time it doesn\'t look so amazing that they have to be FMV.

Glad to hear that you have man your choice for this generation Jumpman,and yes you made the right move with the DC,i love my DC soooo much,brought me alot of good fun,but it was time for me to move on,and my choice was ps2,but i am keeping a close eye on the gamecube,i really think i will end up buying all the consoles,but my main one at the moment is the ps2.
Also looking at the pics more,i think gamecube could do that.


p.s what sort of games are you into?


EDIT:I heard that the last pic is FMV,because that pic came out a few days ago,and nintendo said it was.

I don\'t really have a personal genre since I\'ll buy any game that is good. I\'m not a fighting fan but I loved Soul Caliber. I\'m not really a racing fan but I enjoyed Wave Race 64(the only racing game I liked last generation).

My favorite genres are any game that has a good multiplayer,RPGs, FPS, action, adventures, and my absolute favorite is platformers. I love platform games. I\'ve been hooked on them since Super Mario 3. Any platform game that Rare or EAD puts out will get my purchase because I have never been disapointed with any of their platform games so far(DKC2 was a litte weak though...). Games that combine platforming and shooting are just heaven for me(like Metroid and Conker).

Your right about preference.

Most Nintendo 1st parties  still doesn\'t interest me, and there\'s only 2 or 3 games I\'ve seen for GC that I would want to play from E3. Sony and the PS2 has about 20 Games I want badly coming out this year alone.

These shots must be taken from a cut-scene or something. And Metroid is a first-person adventure. I guess Retro is doing something different with the FPS genre apparently.

Yeah, that\'s what I was saying to myself when I first saw them I guess it\'s because of all the metal.

I don\'t even see why you bothered to put up the extra pics at the bottom. The shots (for the most part) are definately realtime, and pale in compairson to the FMV. (Don\'t take that as a slander, that\'s just natural a prerendered pic looks better.) It\'s not quite up to the standards I would like, but it\'s still pretty early in development and the GC has a LOT of untapped power left. Show me some updated shots in 3 months and I\'ll show you someone who\'s tempted to buy a GC just for this game. I just hope the trasition to FPS Action/Adventure/Shooter dosen\'t stray too far from the heart of the series back when it was in 2d.

Anywho, regardless of what the source said.. Metroid will NOT be a First person Adventure. It\'ll be a Action/adventure/shooter. There\'s a big difference between the two, expecially in the gameplay mechanics and the amount of latteral thinking involved. (Myst, 7th Guest, and The 11th Hour were examples of FPA\'s) I don\'t mean to rant, but classifing games in the wrong genres is a pet peeve of mine.

shame there is are only 2 games for NGC that interest me and 20 on ps2 and many more on xbox

Unfortunately, it\'s scheduled to be released sometime in 2002.

In you don\'t mind me asking then what other NGC games interest you besides this one?

The only games I\'m interesed in are that new rogue squadron game and RE:0

I dont really know what metriod is, so i can\'t get excited
