Namco\'s Dead to Right sure looked cool in initial screens - with John Woo style dives and double handgun toating action. But who knew it would play so well this early in the game?
The E3 version of Dead to Rights gave players a good glipse of the action we\'ll see early next year. Players take on a behind-the-back perspective of the main character. What makes the game beyond cool is the "Dive" function located on the triangle button. At the push of the button and a direction players can dive left, right, forward or back and blast enemies during the dive! The longer you hold onto the dive button, the slower the dive - so a complete Matrix style shooting fest is entirely possible in Dead to Rights. You simply won\'t believe how cool it looks when your character dives super slow while you cap an enemy several times. Very nice Namco.
Other gameplay features include holding an enemy hostage and using him as a shield ala Metal Gear Solid 2. The enemy AI did not shoot me at first but later winded up killing the human shield to get to me. Speaking of AI, the computer has pretty good intelligence and the usual close misses to make the game less frustrating.
Players will be able to pick up various weapons in the game - an extra shotgun was featured in the E3 demo. Another cool gameplay feature had the main character knocking an enemy out with the back end of the shotgun, then shooting him point blank. The move turned the game from its normal perspective to a cinematic presentation just to show off the stylistic flair.
The build at E3 was running at a constant 60 frames per second and had a fair amount of texturing. More could be done to enhance the detail of the game, and there\'s still plenty of time for that to be done.
The U.S. developed Namco title is shaping up very well. If it gets any better than this, Dead to Rights is sure to be a killer app for Playstation 2 next year.
better add this one too my list as well, note:my list is getting very long now: )
