I have a yamaha which I love.  I will upgrade the stereo one day, but not until I buy new speakers.  My next system will be a major one though.  I can rattle the dishes in my house.  I\'m looking to rattle my neighbors.

Funny you should mention that.  I was pushing my father\'s 1980-ish Sansui speakers to see what they could do.  The matching amp blew so we went out and bought our first DPL receiver, a 500 watt Technics with .05% THD in stereo.  The Sansuis are decent; a 15" sub in each, a LOUD mid range, 2 paper tweeters, a horn tweeter, and 160w rms.  They sounded like shiet in terms of imaging and clarity but blew me away when I turned up the volume.

The neighbor called and said I was "Shaking her house."

Awsome.  I\'m keeping these babies.

Yeah, he\'s going to buy a yamaha with Decoder built in and a regular DVD player.  That way he can have DD on his PS2, Direct TV, and the DVD all at once.

Oh yeah, he\'s going to get a sub too.

I just have never been impressed with them.

You hear people buying receivers for like 200 bucks and saying, "yeah, and it\'s got 150watts per channel."

Well, there is a lot to be said about a quality watt.

Go to a real stereo store.  Not one like CC or BB.  They are crap.  Never ask any salesman from either of these two stores for advice.

If you have a Sound Advice or something comparable, go there.  I don\'t even know if they sell sony.

You will never find a Sony receiver in the house of a true audio guy.  VCR, DVD Player, TV, mine are all sony...  Receiver - Yamaha.

Back to my original point, and THX may be able to elaborate more because I am more on the TV side of things.  I\'ve just heard them before side by side and they aren\'t my pick.

If you aren\'t going high end with your system then it probably doesn\'t matter.

Videoholic is right. A real audio nut wouldnt have sony equipment

But Sony is good for the more common brands. eg: Panasonic, Philips etc...
