I run win2000, and my computer doesn\'t crash.  Believe what you will, but that\'s the truth.  A couple weeks ago my computer did in fact appear to crash (it froze when opening IE).  Surprised by this I rebooted and my computer wouldn\'t even post afterwards.  Unknown to me, my CPU fan had stopped working and I fried my CPU, Mobo and vid card.

I talk to a lot of people from IT and computer science and they say the same thing (those who haven\'t gone to linux anyway): a well maintained computer is stable and reliable.  Do regular maintainence, fdisk your harddrive periodically and try to keep relatively current hardware and you will not have problems.

I don\'t know how many people come to me with P1s and 16 megs of ram trying to run recent software.  Invarably these computers have every file that has ever been used or created on their desktop and do not understand/know about add/remove programs, virus checking, defragmentation, windows updates or fdisk.  These same people often curse windows and shoddy programming.

So you are saying that Windows was the reason D2 crashed? No, there were serious issues with the program that had nothing to do with windows.

Programs under linux crash too.  So is that a reason to call Linux a buggy OS?

So no, my computer doesn\'t crash programs will of course but these aren\'t windows\' probelms.  When a program crashes it either has to do with incapatible hardware or a program bug and very rarely anything to do with windows itself.

windows is WELL known to contain THOUSANDS of bugs

please dont deny it, that would make you look foolish

click start->windows update and check "critical patches"

linus = 1000 times more stable

what do u think 90% of the web servers out there run, win 2000?

Watchdog, the Xbox is a bit more than two inches wider than the PS2; it\'s also longer and taller and heavier than the PS2. When you do business travel, your possesions are quite limited. Believe me, I\'ve been on a few long business trips where my suitcase was all I could carry. A few inches of space can mean a lot to a person!

So....he\'s speaking from experience not ignorance.

Kids these days. I swear they think they know everything.

And BTW, Win2000 does crash. I work in the IT department. Mine doesn\'t but a few of my co-worker\'s PC\'s do. It\'s the software - not the hardware that failed.

Now, we do have one Linux power user. His never crashes. Not for two years it hasn\'t.

Too bad there\'s not enough support for it. But that will soon change.

HEY! PS2 runs on Linux! Doesn\'t it?

I work in the IT department too.  I\'m not a kid and I do know what I\'m talking about.  If Windows 2000 is crashing on you, then you are doing something wrong nine times out of ten.  I\'m not saying Win2k is perfect, but what I am saying is that the user is more often to blame.

If Linux was used by the mass public then it would have most of the compatibility and stability problems that windows has.  The majority of linux users(I have a linux box at work, and a Mac btw) are tech heads and have vast computer knowledge.  I\'ve never seen a mechanic\'s car break down at the side of the road, I wouldn\'t expect a linux user\'s PC to crash either.  Nor would I expect that same person\'s windows PC to crash.

It\'s your aunt Jenny\'s computer, your best friend Bob\'s and Gramps\' computer that are in serious trouble.  These people would have trouble in Linux too.

Those bugs you speak of.  Sure there were bugs, but that\'s why I mentioned windows update.  I\'ve read that article a long time ago, and like I said, I\'m not having any problems.

Sure, Linux is a great server I\'m not denying that.  I\'d also not deny that the Mac is the place for editing and publishing.  But if you want to do everything, those OSs are behind, and windows is a superior OS.

I have a PS2 and xbox and I know the difference in size.  It isn\'t that much.

Someone tries to quell the XBox bashing, NOT trying to make you worship it, and you have to call him a retard?

I didn\'t call him a retard, but honestly, what is so "intelligent" about his praise of Xbox that means absolutely nothing? Quotes like "they make the most powerful, feature-packed-ferrari-of-a-machine....", "Look at the ****ing console! It\'s a powerhouse!", "Think about what the harddrive will do.......massive, huge worlds with small loading times.....with amazing graphics, and with loads of action going on screen without a drop in framerate..", "developers will be able to do this easily, since the X-box is easy to program for", "great, amazing games could be made on this machine, games impossible on PS2 or GC.......games that will make your jaw drop....it\'s a very powerful machine....wait for it, and be patient, and hopefully, some more great games will come out..." and lastly "I\'m not an X-box fanboy".

There you go, quoted just about everything he said in his post. He tries to quell the Xbox bashing, but then turns his post in a praise of mindless pro\'s towards the Xbox. Great way of "quelling" Xbox bashing, don\'t you agree?

Well have fun on the road, but the xbox isn\'t going to take up much more space than your PS2--a couple inches isn\'t enough to break anyone one way or another unless of course we are talking about little people, and by little people I mean smurfs.

Those inches are enough for some people if you may like it or not. Those inches are also enough for mcb to hold his own opinion without being labled as ignorant.

Microsoft\'s products prone to failure? I don\'t know what world you live on but on my world MS is about the smartest, largest and richest company out there. I suspect you are referring to Windows? I have windows on my PC and my PC doesn\'t crash. Period. You don\'t expect your car to run smoothly for 10 years without maintaining it, no one should expect a computer to either.

Just because Microsoft is one of the smartest, largest and richest companies out there, doesn\'t mean that their products aren\'t faulty. That\'s what the monopoly takes care of. I also like to point out that he wasn\'t speaking about Win2000 specifically. I know for a fact that Win2k is very stable and so is the older NT4. But lets face it, most people don\'t use NT based OS\'s, they use Win95/98/ME. And if you would like to debate about how stable or faulty these OS\'s are that MOST people use - please be my guest.

Depending on which OS you are refering to right now. Do you blame the software for crashing windows, or do you blame windows for not taking care of that? I\'ve used Linux, and I have never seen a program pull down the whole OS while triggering off a blue screen of death.

What do you call someone with a low IQ?

A retard.

In response to CS2x, you said the IQ in this board was sinking, meaning his lower IQ was causing the average IQ of this board to sink. So yes, you were basically calling him a retard.
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

Low IQ does not mean the person is retarded or mentally challenged. There are quite a few people who have low IQs yet have as much common sense as you or I. That person may or may not be as educated as you, nor have they been through a lot of things that challenged their minds (like a lack of education).

Watchdog,

Like I said, I have no problems with ~my~ Win2K. My co-workers do. Windows is not the superior OS. Side by comparisons we\'ve done Linux had done faster and with no crashes.

Ok what ever. Didn\'t meen to make it sound like a retard, but more to say that the general posts by new people are getting dumber on this board as new fanboys join.

Anyway, you haven\'t answered my question..

This has all gone too far.  This guy has 1 post and he takes all the cheap shots that typical fanboys take (size, weight, MS product).  This wasn\'t an intelligent post, and that\'s why I called him ignorant.

I didn\'t call him ignorant because the few inches matter.  Judging from the rest of his post I even doubt that he even travels much--it could be a vehicle to bash the xbox, which is all this guy did.

No windows isn\'t perfect, my only point is that most users blame windows for everything when they themselves are often to blame.  Most problems occur when people install and uninstall programs drivers, betas, etc and windows gets confused.  This is a problem with windows and also with the user.  There are proper steps that can be taken in order to avoid these most common windows\'s headaches.

Right now it\'s not a fair comparison between Linux and Windows.  Linux isn\'t in the hands of novices, doesn\'t have a complete driver set, doesn\'t have thousands of programs written for it, etc.  But for what Linux does do, it is a better OS, no question.  But Windows does everything Linux does (not as well admittedly) and a whole lot more.  That\'s the difference, and that\'s why windows is a better product right now.

But I do stand firm on the fact that Diablo 2 crashing had nothing to do with windows and everything to do with the actual code of the game.

Firstly, I haven\'t got a low IQ.......I was mereley comenting on how the X-Box does not deserve its harsh reception......I see much more thoughtless and stupid threads like this from PS2 fanboys.......and yes, I know the X-box is not perfect, but it is a great piece of hardware. My Ps2 and Gamcube should sit very nicely next to it. (And don\'t bother making any stupid jokes about its size.)
