I was thinking, why was this guy able to buy two pistols? He had been reported to the police for stalking, and had a psychiatric evaluation in which the doctor checked the box indicating that he was a "danger to himself." (He DIDN\'T check the box that he was a danger to others... that\'s a whole different issue... I can\'t believe that the failsafe for our entire system of dealing with the criminally insane is one guy choosing to check on box on a form somewhere... )
Yet this guy\'s background didn\'t get communicated to the people who handle approving firearm permits. They just ran their default checks, "no felonies convictions, no warrants," whatever, and they rubber stamped him A-OK. I\'m not in favor of banning guns, but there is something seriously wrong with our gun laws when we let just any crazy asshole buy a gun and clear the background checks.
I\'m not saying that every gun buyer needs to have a psychiatric evaluation, but IF YOU DID HAPPEN TO HAVE ONE for some other reason, that information should be considered when they are reviewing your gun permit. That seems pretty reasonable to me.
