EA announce expected PSP price point.

As an adult I just don\'t see how I would have time to play a game anywhere but home...  

I mean if it\'s part of my phone, that that\'s cool, but I just don\'t see why I need to carry around a little personal unit.

A kid on the other hand can play in the back seat of the car while driving.

To me, I would just like a nice home unit.

If it plays Mp3s AND games a $200 price is justified.  An mp3 player alone runs about that much.

I own the original GB, a DC, PSX, PS2, Xbox.... yeah I\'m a fanboy.

And btw, I\'ve spent the last week playing X-Com: TFTD on PC. Gee golly, it\'s a 2D game!

Then I\'m interested in your logic on why the GBA does not interest you. It has some of the single best games in every genre \'cept sports.

And if all you own is the above consoles, then it only reafirms my 3D notion.

Well I kind of question the $200 price point.  If this thing is going to have PS2 graphics and all that other nonsense, it\'ll run $300 or at least $250.

Handheld suicide, in my opinion. Just look at N-Gage.

Vid had a good point about adults not needing handhelds. Aside from a plane ride, I would say most adults can only really use a portable system at home anyway...

$200-300 is expensive no matter what Sony\'s target audience is for the PSP. Now, unlike some of the people here that say it is suicide, $200, while it is expensive, you have to remember that the PSP is a powerful system compared to, say, the GBA or even the N-Gage. If the price is $200, it is even cheaper then the N-Gage (at $300, it isn\'t. But even at this price, PSP is still a powerful game system and promises games that look a lot better).

I\'m not saying the PSP will succeed at $300 or even $200. Just saying that it isn\'t suicide either. AND, if Nintendo does follow with this, Nintendo DS (and have this as its competition), then Sony could very well do just fine with the PSP.

Now we have to wait for what the games will look like. Support for the system (which it appears that Sony IS getting) is very important no matter what the price is.

If the DS plays mp3s just as well or better than the PSP I may have to buy one.  Nintendo is the master of immersive quirky games that don\'t take a long time to learn.

At some point in the game, you need to just stand your ground and that is what Nintendo needs to do at this point. The GBA is a few years old now, has the name brand and countless games that are ported from SNES and original titles (see: Castlevania games). The library is there, the userbase is there and the price is right. There is no reason to release another portable in the market, no matter what Sony does and no matter how original and interesting the portable is. Nintendo is taking big risks. Not only do they cut into their own market, they also stand the chance of not selling these units, like the Virtual Boy and take a huge loss, something they can\'t afford to do with slow sells for the NGC.

Let Sony release the PSP, pump out some more games for the GBA, original content if possible, a new Mario / Zelda / Metriod game would help the GBA a lot. Lower the price on the GBA SP a few dollars or lower the price on the games and watch sells fly while the PSP struggles with a high price tag and no clear market . Nintendo needs to remember that the original Gameboy lasted a decade, with only minor revisions while other companies was putting out far superior handhelds and losing money left and right. No reason to change the plan now.
