It\'s a huge learning curve that\'s here to stay though, saturn tried doing the whole multi-processing thing too early.

Every viable gaming platform (except maybe Revolution) will have dual processor design.  Designers need to quit bitching and figure it out.

I understand, but this is the problem for those whom have not seen the video, Carmack is not bitching about it, all he does is point out the challenges and mistakes he thinks the hardware people made.

If you read the bulletin points I can understand why it might come across as bitching.

Not exactly.Sega didnt have the appropriate tools either to help developers.

Sega decided to change the architecture of their original hardware only months before its release so no tools, not tested and generally as Jbean said Sega decided too early for something the industry viewed as an "alien".

And if I am not mistaken Sega had 2 separate processors not one multicore processor.

Sony and MS on the other hand have spend years and money on R&D and tools so things would be more efficient on a time were the industry is adjusting slowly.

Yep ! Sony are providing a lot of software and development tools ! They learnt from PS2 experience, and I really don\'t see any problem, this time we have an ultra balanced and powerful piece of hardware and tools and everything coming...

That\'s exactly what I was thinking. You people can\'t even make an \'hello world\' program on your box and here you are trying to diss Carmack. That\'s a bit much.

well, when I was 13 I programmed a game similar to Quix in Hi-soft basic on Amica 500, but it was a different thing:p

and when Mr Carmack will develop on PS3 final hardware with more tools, then I\'m going listening his words.....

Your bashing carmack when you know nothing about video game programming on any system. This guy is respected in the game.
I am sure he has looked over and observed each specs for each console. He knows his shit.

You will be playing the games not programming them so why do you care so much?

it\'s not enough looking over specs, Mr Carmack has to program on PS3 a couple of years before telling everyone "IBM should...IBM should not..."...IBM made a misstep with PS3 Cell processor.....thst\'s my opinion, QuDDus relax, we can\'t change anything:)
