I like WRX\'s, but they aren\'t 350hp.  Are you looking at a modded one?

Either way, the LAST thing you need in college is a hefty car payment.  I\'d look at something more economical but you do your thing.  I know the under 25 croo thinks differently when it comes to finances.

Nah, I\'m getting a USED WRX. About 16K and my montly would be around 250 and my dad offered to help. He doesn\'t like any kind of imports though. Because he "can\'t work on them".

The one I\'m looking at is a modded one with Carbon Fiber, Cold air and some other stuff.

I\'m looking at another one with a dropped in STI engine with an upgraded turbo. I don\'t know about the horsepower on that one.

BTW, it ISN\'T a "rice burner"
I like THIS one alot:

This one has the STI engine so it might be better in the long run but it doesn\'t come with as many mods as the previous one.

And
A REAL STI...not many mods though and I\'m saving it as a last resort.

I heard about the Subarus\' being very effiecientand very dependable...I hope I wasn\'t lied too!!

Hey those prices aren\'t that bad.  You may have to read up on some Scoobie forums to see about their reliability.  I think one of our Euro members is hardcore into those, goes to big meets and everything.

If you get it I hope you enjoy it, and don\'t do anything stupid like wrap it around a tree.

I have been going around different forums reading up on them. They all claim to have excellent reliability and they have around a six year average in terms of needing a big repair. Not to shabby. My current car needed a big repair almost every other month.

I\'m going to love it like I\'ve never loved before.

You have a strange outlook on several things.  First, a Subaru is not a "rice burner"  ????  I guess you\'re saying a Honda is, but a Subaru isn\'t?  I don\'t understand your definition.  I\'m pretty sure both they\'re both built in Japan.

Second, you seem to favor cars that have already been modded.  To me that indicates a greater liklihood the car has been beaten on and the owner might be hiding some problems.  That is why modded cars typically sell for the same or less than a perfectly stock equivalent.  If reliability is your priority, you should stay as far away from modded cars as possible.

Listen to wisdom:  At your age you need a car that will be headache free.  Find one that has no modifications, or very mild ones, like a strut tower brace and exhaust.  If you buy a car where the previous owner tinkered with the turbo system, you have NO IDEA what you\'re getting into.

Finally, that is not a REAL STI.  Subaru never sold the STi in the United States with bugeye headlights.  The owner doesn\'t represent it as an STI, he just stuck an STI badge on it.  That is a modded WRX.  By the way, he installed a front mount intercooler.  I would stay away from it.

The term rice burner or rice car can mean different things, based on the context of its use: * Most of the time it refers to automobiles (usually low-cost factory standard) that have the appearance of a customized / high performance car, but possibly with little or no functional modifications, such as improved engine, suspension or brakes. This is the most common use of the phrase and is the one the rest of this article deals with.

---that is my definition. I understand most people refer to them as Hondas and stuff, which I do sometimes, but my definition has a greater scope. A "rice burner" can be a mustang with a body kit for instance with a v6 engine.

Also, last time I checked the Subaru is Autralian.

As far as that fake STI. I figured it was badged. The engine doesn\'t even say "sti" for godsakes. I was going to use that against the owner to see if he would drop the price, but now that I think about it, it would be pretty embarrising to drive around with a wrx with fake badges.

I understand the modded problem. Which is why I really like the first one. The mod\'s are good but minimal. The taillights are a major badass factor. All he put in it was a good cold air, new brakes, clutch and flywheel(which is good for a manual) and carbon fiber. Not too shabby.

The grey one though has a dropped STI engine with an upgraded turbo. I haven\'t really looked into that one but I\'m going to ask the owner about the upgrade and probably take it to a good mechanic to have him take a look.

I also found this one...

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=204024729&dealer_id=58015381&model=IMPREZ&lang=en&start_year=1981&certified=&search_type=both&distance=300&make=SUB&min_price=1&address=75211&advanced=&end_year=2007&max_price=20000

It\'s pretty sweet with the Cobb upgrade. Which is a good high quality upgrade for subarus. I really like everything else he upgraded which is pretty normal and not too many engine tweaks.

I think the black one is a better deal though. Just something about that black car....

Subaru is the automobile division of the japanese company Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuji_Heavy_Industries

They may build cars in Australia for the Australian market, I have no idea.  The WRX sold in the United States is built in Japan.

Damn it! Well, I will never succumb to honda and toyota!! NEVER!!

From what I have researched, the EVO VS. WRX crowd are complete different animals from the Honda and the Celica crowd.

As a Subaru owner, mainly it\'s because Evo and WRX owners tend to be a little older than your average Civic Si owner. Also, these cars range between $23,500 (WRX) to $32,000 (Evo and STi).

It takes some years driving experience before you can drive these monsters, as well as Cored\'s S2000. AWD cars tend to be a little tricky, particularly the Subarus as they can either understeer or oversteer - depending on where you have the weight distribution going and how you brake, shift and throttle.

The Evolution....well, I\'m suspicious of Mitsu\'s reputation. But company aside, the Evo has a hardcore jolting suspension system. It drives like a go-kart with lots of power. But whereas the WRX and STi is refined in comparison, this car will make you feel like a race car driver. Careful though, it oversteers a lot easier than the Subarus. I like oversteer....but you better be prepared not to use the brakes while in one.
