Camping out - when?
« on: October 12, 2006, 07:24:11 AM »
I\'m going to have to camp out because I get a special deal at Toyrsrus and they are not taking preorders SO

How early do I have to be there?  Im thinking about 4 hours before they open.

Anybody here camp out for the PS2?  How early should I go?

hah 4 hours!?  Try at least 14.

Many people are showing up noon the day before.

I camped for the ps2, here\'s some pics & details here. :p

It was funny seeing folks stroll up to Best buy at 9-10am on launch day, thinking they\'d pick up a PS2, only to have this dumbfounded look on their face when they saw the line.

You were there 14 hrs early and only #43 in line?!

I\'m hoping the PS3 situation will be similiar to your Xbox situation.  I think the $600 price tag should be good enough to detour a good amount of traffic.

How good do you think my chances are if I show up at Toys R Us at 3 AM and they open at 10?  That\'s 7 hours early.  7 hours

I get special deals only at Toys R Us,  and there is 2 Toys R Us stores here so I think If I start looking around for the smallest line at 3 AM I should be fine,  right?!...I may give Best Buy a glance just to see the huge line lol.

Hard to say, a good mix of the line I was in were poor college kids, ebay dealers, and parents.  If you took out group #1 due to the higher cost of the system, that still leaves many folks looking for an even smaller amount of units on launch (500k PS2s, vs. 400k PS3s).

Expect the top 10 people in line to be grey-haired ebay dealers with their friends/family.

I would bet you have a good chance of scoring one if you wait at 3am in a non-major metropolitan area.

Me personally, I will wait for the ps3 to drop to price tag a little before deciding to get one.  Which could mean a year or longer after launch.

I will literally take the next day off of work, and get there at 6 pm the day before launch. I did it for the PS2 when i was like 15, and yes, those pics of the line you posted are very similar to the situation i encountered. i was like #30 or something.
