Metascore = 90

92 - PSM3 Magazine UK / Jan 13, 2011 /  It\'s beautiful, that goes without saying, and a relentless beast in combat. But more than that, it understands how players play - what they look for, listen to, and most of all what they expect. That\'s why, and this is a considerable achievement, it can genuinely scare you with a common sprinkler system.

90 - The Official Magazine (US) / Jan 14, 2011 / With meticulous polish, top-quality gameplay, and more than enough scream-like-a-little-girl moments, Space 2 surpasses the original in every capacity. Factor in its gruesome dismemberments and spectacular zero-G and there\'s truly nothing else like it.

90 - Edge Magazine / Jan 14, 2011 / The game\'s excellent controls and stream of grisly scares make it the current standard for survival horror, and it now boasts eruptions of blockbusting action that rival this generation\'s biggest games.

90 - Game Informer / Jan 10, 2011 / A monster of a sequel, offering bigger scares and more excitement than I expected... The tease for Dead Space 3 has my head spinning with questions.

Can\'t wait !

Dead Space 2 IGN PS3 Review

Dead Space 2 is an amazing game. I\'m going to write about its scary moments, cool kills, and how much I dig the main character\'s internal struggle, but Dead Space 2 is about more than this. When I beat it for the first time, I sat on the couch with my heart racing and dissected the journey I had just taken. Then, I started my second playthrough, and when that was done, I jumped into a new game for the third time. Dead Space 2 is just that good...

Luckily, as I hope I\'ve already driven home, Dead Space 2\'s single-player is so good, you shouldn\'t question picking this game up. Plus, if you\'re grabbing this on the PlayStation 3, you\'re getting Dead Space Extraction as well. IGN\'s already signed off on the game being cool, so getting it in HD and supporting Trophies is a win. Plus, you can play it with PlayStation Move or your regular controller and both work well.

Dead Space 2 is more than just an action game and it\'s more than a survival horror game -- it\'s a game that tells a really personal story about a guy who has been seriously scarred by the events around him. That premise alone makes it interesting, but Visceral Games melds it with rewarding combat, shocking enemies, and huge set pieces before tossing it into a world that\'s truly creepy and scary. I didn\'t find multiplayer that interesting and would\'ve liked to have seen Isaac stop being an errand boy, but none of that spoils what you\'re getting here. The shocking moments, the gruesome deaths, and the fun of playing through this experience again and again are what I took away from this one.

Dead Space 2 is an excellent game, and it\'s well worth your time and money.

I finally finished this game...and it\'s an incredible intense experience.....and even tho some areas have some open environments because you\'re aboard a space station, you still have moments of tight dark corridors with creepy sounds and tons of atmosphere. I love how the people living in the space station are being multilated as you trek your way very early on in the game.

The gameplay is super smooth and the improvement to the O-Gravity segments is a move in the right direction....some folks might say it\'s more of the same, but the scares are the jump out in your face type boo-scares from the last game, but it\'s done amazingly well. I thought the first game was better than RE5...this game is better than the first in every way...issac has a voice and personality and the new weapons add a whole new variety to dis-member the necromorphs....visuals are amazing here as well.....i love survival horror and the Dead Space series has delivered again...highly recommended....:thumb:

2 questions clips:

How long did the game take you to beat? and how is the multiplayer?

As much as I loved DS1 and think its one of the best IP\'s of this generation, I was glad I just beat it in a rent instead of paying full price for it. After i beat the game I really didnt feel up to playing through it a second time..even when I thought I did after seeing DS2 was announced, I borrowed it from my brother but lost interest in playing through it after a while for one reason or another

I feel obligated to buy this game to support franchises that I love, but when its all said and done I have a feeling its not worth the purchase for me

maybe after a few paychecks ill stop being such a cheap ass

Viper, i can\'t comment on the multiplayer, since i don\'t do online....for me Survival horror type games are better in a single player setting, but i heard that the multi-player was fun if you\'re playing as a group of the soldiers, because of the weapons you have. I also heard it\'s not as fun to play as the necromorphs since you\'ll end up dying alot because you\'re basically overpowered by the guns of the soldiers.

It took me about 14-15 hours to beat and that\'s because i search every nook and cranny of each level and try to read all of the logs that i can find...this isn\'t the kind of game that you can run and gun either...i loved walking through the dark corridors walking slowly with my weapon ready.

If you lost interest in the first game, then you\'re most likely going to lose interest in this one...there\'s a bit more variety in the monsters and weapons, but what\'s seen here is more of what was seen in the last game, but i particularily don\'t have a problem with that, but just based on what you mentioned up above, i\'d say skip it in your situation, or at the very least rent it to see if it\'s to your liking...:fro:

finally got around to renting this and im about an hour and a half in (im taking my time, looking through all the rooms for goodies)

Im loving it so far. the beginning was an amazing sequence to get you into the game

My only problem right now is Im regretting playing on Normal since its been a bit too easy. My first playthrough I usually like to keep the difficulty down, enjoy the game, get engaged in the story, etc..and dieing a bunch or worrying excessively about having enough ammo at all times incase I unknowingly get to a part where I need a lot of ammo (aka, the room with the plants in DS1) can really kill a game for me

But i\'ve only died once because I had a dumb moment and only been hit once other than the time I died. and theres a LOT of ammo to pick up

Hoping it just gets more difficult as you progress.

normal ended up being a good difficulty. Getting hit once didnt ruin the game but was still enough of a challenge to keep it interesting

wouldnt really mind playing through it again eventually to unlock some of the extra stuff so it wouldve been worth a buy. 12 hours might not be a long game now-a-days, but for a linear game like this it was perfect.

Yeah...it was a pretty decent game...i\'m glad you stuck with it...i went back and got all of the upgraded suits...and that\'s the only way i play now...:D...the difficulty progresses at a balanced rate on normal...it\'s very easy in the beginning to get you used to the overall gaming mechanics.

Towards the end of the game tho, even on normal difficulty it starts to get a bit tough when they start throwung waves of enemies at you...even tho it was a bit more of the same, i like the fact that Issac has a voice, and everything was generally improved from the last game and you got a bit more of an insight on that Church of Unitology cult....i\'m looking forward to the next game...

I\'ve done two playthroughs, mainly to unlock achievements.  It was much easier the second time with fully upgraded weapons.

I like the new play mechanics they introduced in this game.  The zero g movement makes a lot more sense, and it was fun busting open windows to blow a few of the necromorphs into space.

Next up I have to start from scratch again on Hardcore mode.  That\'s going to be a pain because it only allows you 3 saves.  I heard its better to do this one first, and get the "foam finger" reward before going back and doing a Zealot mode playthrough.
