Gohan, me and you are two different guys. I dont really care at ALL what games sell the best. I just like what plays the best, and what has been playing the best from Sega has alot of the time been new stuff for the past couple years.

Look at:

Sega GT
Jet Set Radio
PSO (arguably just a MRPG with the glorious PS name slapped on it)
Monkey Ball
Air Trix
Skies of Arcadia
Chu Chu Rocket
Outtrigger
etc.

Sells the best? most of these games sold HORRIBLY, but these are some of the best games Sega has offered the past couple years.

Show me some games Nintendo has made in the past couple (2) years that have been new.

So what it all comes down to is; does a game necessarily have to be new to be good??

Technically, no. What angers me is when people call any game even remotely related to Nintendo "kiddy," (doesn\'t matter if it comes from Silicon Knights or Retro) which in fact only come from two branches of the company.

Don\'t take it so seriously, but the fact remains the GC is already geared towards the young.

How is the GC geared toward the young?? I just can\'t figure out the logic behind that...

Of ocurse not, many of Sega\'s, Nintendo\'s, etc.\'s sequels are great games, but when you are playing the same game as you were the year before with a couple new features or twists, it gets quite annoying. Case in Point would be Mario Party 3.

Thats the thing. Nintendo hasn\'t made a game in a while. Most of their resources have been working on the GCN and GBA.

When Nintendo does make a new game it tends to be copied so when they come out with a follow-up people complain about Nintendo making another rehash.

BTW, Don\'t get me wrong. I am in no way a Nintendo Fanboy w/ my head up Yamauchi\'s ass. Its just thatI was really impressed by what was shown from Nintendo and I don\'t understand when someone rights something off because it is "kiddie". I don\'t want to rant but I think it may be a bit of an over compensation on their part. If you want me to go into details I will. :D

Hey Altered, I wasn\'t bashing just in case you thought I was.

I believe all three Mario Parties were made by Hudson Soft, but published by Nintendo. The only major rehash that came from Nintendo was Pokemon, a gateway to hell opened courtesy of HAL. That\'s about all the recycled crap I can name though. As for Nintendo having new titles... Gohan said everything I wanted to in his post.

I\'m in no way bashing Sega or anything. Just wanted to get it clear that Nintendo doesn\'t burp up old titles every time.

yes both Sony and Nintendo have a long list of sequels to games, but Ninendo has to be innovative to win, this is the same reason why the Tomb Raiders and the Residental Evils got worse as they went on, look at games like the Gran Turismo\'s and you see that they arent just sequels there whole new games, totally innovative
Both Sony and Nintendo need games that are not just the same old junk but new and exciting

well what really kills  a  system for me was the fact that no so much it has sequels - i mean sequels make a lot of sense to me - why not make another game based on game that sold well and was accepted very well

but anyway i hate it when a console gets a lot of games based on the same genre - Sony had a great amount of variety while N64 had mostly Platformers - i know that has changed a little with the GC and i hope that they can make a lot of cool games in eacg genre
This Sig is a Work in Progress.

Nintendo is all about the Dollar signs. They know that Mario is arguably the most recognized character in video games so why not use that knowledge to make oodles of dough. Insted of putting out a cartoony tannis/golf game they can plaster Mario\'s name on it and it will sell a couple million more. All of the gaming companies just want to make cash and as much of it as possible, its just that Sega and Nintendo happen to have some of the most brilliant minds in gaming so people try to convince themselves that Nintendo is in the business to please us. Case in point. Nintendo has put out a whopping 5 pokemon games in the course of a couple years. If that isn\'t bad enough, they bamboozle the kidds into buying TWO versions of the EXACT same game just to get 2 or 3 more critters. How sickening is that? Then they make a game for the N64 that requires an expensive transfer pack so that the kids can see their captured critters in 3d(Not that they look much different in 2D or 3D). To us this may be sickening; but in a business sense that was one of the most ingenious business tactics the gaming world has ever seen. I guess that is why they have been around for so long and will remain around for much longer.
[/rant]

Sorry about the rant. I guess I had to elaborate to explain the whoring out of Nintendo mascots.

BTW, this could be applied to ANY company that pastes their mascots all over crap and releases countless rehashes.

And don\'t get me wrong. A lot of these rehashes from Sony, Nintendo, and Sega are nothing less than brilliant.

Pimping would be a better term than Whoring.

July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

The way I figure it is that it IS Nintendo\'s own product being given away for money. If Sony put a ton of Nintendo mascot\'s on the PS2 THEN it would be pimping. :D
