Oh, sorry, I thought it was state-wide.  It just must be the dry-grass areas where it would be a big fire problem.

As I type there is someone setting off fireworks in the yard next to me, though!  :D

Guess noone enforces the law!

I\'ve gotten in trouble for setting off whistlers and firecrackers, people called the police thinking we were shooting a gun, but the police seem to turn the other way around the 4th.  It\'s strange because in Wisconsin, Indiana, and Missouri fireworks are legal but Illinois which is in between all of them it is illegal.

You have to read this from the place I get fireworks from;

"Dear fireworks enthusiasts in the state of Illinois.
If you want to buy fireworks and return them to Illinois, you had better
figure on the following schedule: Due to the enforcement mounted by the
Illinois police officials after prodding by the Hammond Indiana fire department

(they want to get rid of the fireworks vendors in the city of Hammond, Indiana),
it becomes more apparent than ever that you Illinois residents plan your
firework purchases between July 5th and June 20th.  trying to get fireworks
during the period of June 20th to July 4th appears to be flirting with danger
of confiscation by the Illinois officials when you re-enter the state of Illinois.

PLAN YOUR PURCHASES EARLY - Our Indiana warehouses that handle most of the
Illinois customers are located at Covington, Burns Harbor and the giant
Shelton fireworks warehouse at Porter, Indiana.
ITS IS A CASE OF THE EARLY BIRD GETS THE WORM and last minute shoppers may
expect the chance of losing their fireworks to the Illinois authorities.
OUR INDIANA FIREWORKS WAREHOUSES ARE OPENED ALL YEAR ROUND FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE.
SHOP EARLY.  THE INDIVIDUAL TELEPHONE NUMBERS ARE POSTED ON THE WAREHOUSE PAGE
WHERE YOU SHOP in case you want to make a special appointment or have a question
you want answered.  YOU HAVE THE WHOLE YEAR TO PLAN YOUR PURCHASE AND THE
WAREHOUSES ARE AVAILABLE TO YOU ALL YEAR ROUND.
Paul Shelton, fireworks dad.  "

I wonder what the Hammond fire department did to get the Illinois police so pissed.

btw-there are a bunch of people doing fireworks right now here, including me:)

Here in Backwater, Oklahoma, USA, you can do anything you think you can get away with. ;)

Fireworks are legal here, but it\'s illegal to sell Bottle Rockets. No prob, I live 3 miles from the Oklahoma/Texas border, so I just take a little drive to get my Rocket fix. Stands open up over 2 weeks in advance of the 4th, so you\'ll hear explosions at all hours of the night from the middle of June to the first of July.
You are in an open field west of a big white house with a boarded front door. There is a small mailbox here.

Certainly must be legal in at least *parts* of Virginia...b/c here in Richmond & the surrounding areas, there are many places you can purchase them (right on the side of the road at corner gas stations, etc.).

SPOILER ALERT...THOSE THAT STILL BELIEVE IN SANTA READ NO FURTHER!!!

BTW, I got a crazy-a$$ father-in-law that fires off an entire GROCERY BAG full of them each and every flippin\' Christmas EVE after Mass.  I don\'t know where this guy gets his sense of convention, but all my wife & I can think during his "shows" is the poor-a$$ neighbors that have finally gotten their kids to bed so that they can spend the next 2 hours putting $hit under the christmas tree as quitely as possible...and then all the freakin\' sudden they\'ve gotta contend with the husband having a Vietnam Flashback as my father-in-law fires off 10 M-80s  in a row, more Roman Candles than you can shake a stick at, & who knows WHAT else...  Quite embarrassing...

Umm.. guys... I LIVE in Indiana, and I\'m here to tell you that Fireworks are very illegal here. However, due to a loophole in state stature you can purchase out of state fireworks. Which means, you must leave the state to set them off or risk prosocution. The penalties are pretty stiff too. I know a guy who got 30 days in jail for setting off a bottlerocket in Fort Wayne.

I live in the country, so enforcement is a bit looser out here. (And our local cop, George, is a good ole boy who would hold the lighter for you while you got the good ready.)

Legal here (Kentucky). I personally don\'t care for fireworks, so I never buy \'em.

I\'m personally hoping my neighbor\'s kids don\'t shoot any off this year.  I can\'t stand fireworks.. Damn loud noises.

Here in Finland it is legal to fire fireworks from 6pm of new years eve, to 6am the next morning. Otherwise, it\'s illegal. Exceptions can be made (for big parties, openings, etc.) by consulting the local police force.

This one year (can\'t remember for the life of me which year), me and a couple of my friends went out and decided to try some bombs at about 5pm on new year\'s eve. Our neighbour was the explosion, and chased us through the forest. When he caught us, he started asking for our personal information and blarblarblar... "You wanna go to jail, huh??!!". Jezuz what a [expletive].

So you\'re saying you can purchase them in Indiana but you can\'t set them off there?  That doesn\'t make much sense.  Are you sure it isn\'t just illegal where you live?

It\'s illegal to set off fireworks ANYWHERE in Indiana, AFAIK. There might be a few counties where it\'s legal due to legislatiave loopholes.. but overall it\'s a state law.

I guess it all depends on your term "Fireworks" though as well. You can set off sparklers, fountains, twirlers, and smoke bombs.. things like that. But if it explodes in any way shape or form then it\'s illegal.
