Or maybe the games just suck?

jetgrind, tone down and quit accusing people of being fanboys, name calling will get you banned, especially if you are new.

Doubtfully. I guess that\'s why DC sold around the same at launch then.

IronFish?  Oh, you will pay. ;)

Jetgrind, there are not as many Anti-Nintendo people here as you think.  There are only two posts that I can think of that diss the NGC, and one of them was started by you saying that the NGC launch wasn\'t too bad.  I agree, it wasn\'t bad.  But it is nothing compared to the PS2\'s.  Before you start using the "f" word (fanboy), you should know that I am looking forward to the NGC as well as the Xbox.  The new Zelda game is reason enough for me to buy the NGC (the only problem is being able to afford it. ;))

I agree with MM about the "mini-DVD." (that\'s what I call it, don\'t bother telling me that\'s not what it\'s called.)  Nintendo is limiting itself by using a smaller capacity disk.  It\'s not a reason to hate Nintendo, but it is a slight problem.

And about what Gohan said.  Maybe they didn\'t sell that many games, but they sold their console in record numbers -- which is what Nintendo should have been trying to do.  Nintendo has the power to be in first place.  They shouldn\'t settle for second again.  They should have planned their launch better.

And if I remember correctly, there is a DVD version of the NGC which costs about the same as the PS2 did.  So that argument is pointless.

Like AlteredBeast said, quit calling people names.  It accomplishes nothing.

you think GC had no hype?!?! Try DC\'s COMPLETE lack of hype. It sold based on some truly great games that came out with it.

One of which got a perfect score from Famitsu...ouch.

That isn\'t a bad amount by any means for the GC, considering it had almost no hype and lacks a Mario title, which always sell on a 1:1 ratio with the system ( ala N64). The PS2 had so much damn hype behind it, including the hype Sony got from the shortage at launch that it was gurantee\'d to sell. However, there was plenty of terrible launch titles, unlike the GC launch which apparently has pretty damn good launch titles. Nintendo once again went with quality over quanity and I support their choice on that.

The smaller disc really isn\'t that much of a problem. The GC compresses textures at a good rate - I forget the exact compression ratio and if they need to, they can make it on more than one disk. No big a problem really.  Did the GD-ROM hurt the DC? No, not really.

I personally doubt the GC ever matches the PS2 userbase, but why who cares? They have their gurantee\'d sales with younger children, people who love their franchises, christains who dislike violence and now they have the Resident Evil series which gurantee\'s some more sales. Overall, they are going to have an impressive userbase before the end of next year. Will it match the PS2 userbase? I doubt it, but it will be big enough to make the big \'N\' a ton of money.

jumpman is mostly right.  [thx for the support]

i have 13 consoles sitting behind me in my entertainment center, and they ALL work.  i have been gaming since 1978. [was jetgrind born yet?]

i hate nintendo, because they abandoned us [the mature gamer] over the latter course of the SNES and LIFETIME of the N64.

although i love my GBA, the big "N" has lost my respect in the home console market

jetgrind, please find out more info about someone before you "attempt" to insult them

Sorry but is The Gamecube Release in Japan ?

i thought it was going to be the same time as the US launch ?

Anyhoo like MM said after the "N64" i lost a lot of respect with them over that one.

True True there was some Great titles but for the most part Nintendo was the king of shooting themselfs in their Foot.

What with

"abandoned us [the mature gamer]"
Being the only console at the time to be on Cartraiges rather than CD\'s (SEGA convertered long before they ever did)
And a Release scedule that makes the British public transport system look like a wonder of moderen life.

Look i am not bashing Nintendo but if it is realy is relased in why did they PUBLISISE it a BIT more

ok so they can\'t realy do it the now due to the world wide shock over the Terror Attacks in the USA (and Quite right too) , but they could at least done a world wide build up for the conolses japanese relase over the summer!

or have i just missed that Build up to the launch too ?

That BBC article was an article that nobody could find.  I saw another thread about this.  300,000 sold on the first day was incorrect according to the article I read.  Someone making up stories again.  Probably IGNCUBE.
