Cloudchaser Nintendo

BBC news just reported that 300,000 GameCubes have already been sold in Japan. They also explained that Nintendo wanted stores to open at 7am, but most opened early at 12 midnight to avoid long queues.

These are great numbers and if this continues the system may very well be sold out by Saturday evening.
Oh yeah, gamecube is doing sooo bad...contrary to what other threads say.

Um, think about this. PS2 had some much hype behind it, gamecube has none, and no mario title. Its doing great.

We all know why the ps2 sold so well. IT was well hyped and it was feeding off the success of the psx. Nobody is expecting gcn to sell ps2 numbers.

Sony didn\'t need any \'one\' title to fall back on, al la Nintendo.

Nintendo NEEDS there franchises to sell consoles, Sony doesn\'t, although it helps (GT3). I am not a big fan of Nintendo, if you haven\'t noticed. I just wish they would come up with something new every, say, 5 years.

That is all I ask.

This is what Gaming Age wrote about their experience getting a NGC.  For the whole article, go here.

When I got there, the line was in a word pathetic. Having seen pictures from the Game Boy Advance, Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 launches, this was probably 1/50th of the size. Less than twenty people were in line at LAOX where I had learned was a good place to go without a preorder since they tend to get a lot of stock. As it turns out, Akihabara was almost dead. About thirty people were in front of Messe Sanoh, and only three in front of SofMap...

...If the size of the lines wasn’t bad enough, what was worse was less than half of those people in line were actually Japanese. There were several people from other countries waiting in line, and most of them writing for a site to cover the launch. By the time the store opened up, approximately sixty people were in line. Better than before, but still rather bad for such a big launch. Nobody here was going to have trouble picking up a system.

Oh yes, a great start indeed. [/sarcasm off]

300,000 is a big number, but it is not that impressive compared to the PS2 launch.

I\'d rather buy 1,000,000 dollars worth of crackers than go back to playing with cartridges!

EXACTLY. I don\'t know why every keeps comparing it to the ps2 launch. I know they are not trying to say ps2 A1 quality is the reason it sold so much? Tell me that is not the case.

Thats besides the point silly sony fanboy. The cube is selling good, if you actually took the tir to look at websites like PGC and Tendobox you would know this.

And mm, what a LAME ASS EXCUSE for not liking Nintendo. They didt use DVS format because they dont want there games, wich sell a hell of alot better than any ps2 game, to be pirated. Was your first system the playstation or something?

mm was a gamer since the first ever console I believe.

He used to be a Nintendo fan...until he got high! j/k\\

And watch out with the name calling. If someone says something ridiculously stupid, then it\'s ok. But IronFish is just slightly uninformed. ;)

Factors that should be considered about the launch is I don\'t know...THE RECENT TERRORIST ATTACKS MAYBE. There was also like a typhoon warning in Japan too.

Gohan made the best point thus far.
