Game of the Year awards! (all consoles)
« on: December 26, 2001, 04:00:41 AM »
Yes, yes I know we\'ve already done a small game of the year award thread, but lets try something different.

PS2 Game of the Year

Devil May Cry

I\'m sure a lot of you are going to disagree with me on that one. For me though, that was the PS2 game of the year.

Runner\'s up
 • Shadows of Destiny
 • Kolona 2
 • Jak and Daxter

GameCube Game of the Year

Pikimin

A no brainer. The GC is still new, so there isn\'t a lot of games out for it but even if there was , it would of been extremely hard to top this highly original and addictive title.

Runner up
 • Rouge Squadron 2
 • Super Monkey Ball
 • Super SMash Bro\'s: Melee

X-Box[Game of the Year

Halo: Combat Evoled

I can\'t say I am a fan of the game, but it is clearly the best XBox title out this year. Its just a damn shame the Xbox launched so close to the end of the year ( as did the GC).

Runner up
 • Munch

( Note: I\'d list more than one runner up for X-box, but I can\'t think of any games on it that was remotely fun other than those two. Hey, I\'m allowed to do that damnit..Its your own personal awards! ;) )

GameBoy Advance Game of the Year

Advance Wars

A game that is classic in some senses and in others more complex than 98% of the next generation games. Not to mention massive multiplayer mode and addictive single player mode. A must have.

Runner\'s up
 • CastleVania: COTM
 • Golden Sun
 • Super Mario Kart Advance - or whatever the hell its named. I can\'t help but forget.

And finally....What no one has really been waiting for, but I decided to do anyways.....

THE GAME OF THE YEAR

PIKIMIN

Go ahead, flame me. Ask me what the hell I am smoking . Accuse me of being a Nintendo fanboy, because I didn\'t give that award to one of the numerous huge PS2 titles (GTA3, MGS2, GT3,etc). I can\'t help it though. Pikimin is the only game this year on any next generation console that was original, addictive, gorgeous and many other things. It just got everything right.

Okay, now that I am done with my so called awards (that many of you will disagree with..;) ). Post your own.

Hey, Clippy...

Where the heck is the Dreamcast section???

That goes to Shenmue 2.

:fro: :fro: :fro:
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

PS2 Game of the Year

Grand Theft Auto 3

Hands down, this is one of THE most addictive games of the year. Up to the release of this game I still played GTA2 on my PC occasionally, and now it seems that this game just improves on it. Hopefully I\'ll still be playing this in months to come.

Runner\'s up
 • ICO
 • Final Fantasy X
 • Klonoa 2

GameCube Game of the Year

Super Smash Bros. Melee

As I\'m writing this, I just received my Cube yesterday, and I\'ve only played two games, so there you go. I have not played multiplayer yet, but I can assure you that this will be THE party game to own for the next year. I\'m having a great time getting all the secret characters.

Runner up
 • Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2

X-Box[Game of the Year

Halo: Combat Evolved

This is a wonderful game, although there are a few things that could be fixed. IMO the multiplayer is SLOW (there should be some bots to play around with). That\'s the only complaint, but its one worth noting for the upcoming Halo 1.5.

Runner up
 • Fuzion Frenzy

GameBoy Advance Game of the Year

Advance Wars

Whatever Living-in-Clip said. BUY IT.

Runner\'s up
 • CastleVania: COTM
 • Golden Sun
 • Breath of Fire

PS2 Game of the Year

Grand Theft Auto 3

Read my review of it here:
http://www.psera.com/bin/showreviews.cgi?id=8

This is the most influental and innovative game of the year.  The interactivity and the dimension of depth this game presents is just amazing.  Just go into the GTA3 forum on this site and look at just how many different ways one can appraoch a single mission.  It\'s just surreal.  The future of videogames bar none.

Runner\'s up

GameCube Game of the Year

Pikimin

A difficult Nintendo title where time is your most serious adversary.  It\'s beautiful, it\'s fast, and it\'s fun.  What more could you ask for from a Nintendo title?  To Hell with all you kiddy naysayers!  I had more fun with Pikmin then I did Max Payne or Dead or Alive 3, or Silent Hill, but I doubt those games can be described in any capacity as being any more mature with a valid explanation.

Runner up
 • Rouge Squadron 2 (Review Pending)
 • Super Monkey Ball
 • Super Smash Bro\'s: Melee (Review Pending)

X-Box Game of the Year

Halo: Combat Evoled

Read my Review of it here:
http://www.psx2central.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=17180

One of the best games I have played in a long time not to mention one of the best FPS\' in a long time.  I don\'t agree with Gamespot in putting this one as third place, but I do say that the game should be very high on the overall list.  I only wish it had a higher framerate (nitpicking) and online play.

Runner up
 • Max Payne

( Note: As LiC said, there aren\'t too many must-own titles for the X-Box and I think listing Max Payne was stretching it a bit.  Dead or Alive 3 is horse manuer in my opinion and in no way did munch deliver on its hype.  Other than that, Max Payne is actually fun to play and I can\'t let a system go without at least ONE runner up.)

GameBoy Advance Game of the Year

Advance Wars

It\'s like a miniature version of Civilization mixed in with the recent flair of Risk with a beautiful tutorial that will keep you entertained for a few hours and then a single player game that is just awesome.  On top of that, there\'s a link battle mode where you can face off against a friend using strategy and great tactics.  The land is your friend and so it this game.  I can\'t believe I had ignored the title for this long.

Runner\'s up
THE GAME OF THE YEAR

Grand Theft Auto 3

Gamespot and I actually agree on something.  It was not exactly the highest rated game, but it was definitely the most well crafted and is a testament that with a little talent and a little patience, anyone can develop a totaly awesome ground-breaking game.
Don\'t you ever touch my cape.
