One of our hosts I\'m working with this weekend is from CA and she has no accent.

Are you freaking insane??????  You\'ve been in the states so I can\'t say you speak from a lack of knowledge.

Are you trying to tell me that someone from Arkansas sounds like someone from New York?  Or someone from North Carolina?  Or Rhode Island?  Or Mississippi?  Or Minnesota?  Or Oregon?  Or New Mexico?  Do I have to name all 50?

You have no freaking clue.  Not only does every state have a different accent, but regions of states have different accents.  The US is the most diverse country in the world and for you to say the people talk the same is completely idiotic.


Slang refers to the usage of words.  Like some areas use words that other areas don\'t.  That is true too.  But they certainly have different accents as well.

People in the States, for instance, New Yorkers, talk different to that of say people from the West Coast, BUT THIS IS NOT A BLANKET CASE.

Not EVERYONE talks differently, if you get what I mean.

You are contridicting yourself though, because you say people talk differently depending appon where they are in the States, yet you say you don\'t have an accent???

You would be very suprised to find out that most states actually do sound different, most are suddle differences but there are still differences.  I would say its more like regions, like a group of states in an area sound the same.  The only thing I don\'t get that Videoholic said was with Californians not having an accent.  That doesn\'t make any sense at all.  Whos to say that they are the so called "Normal" sound of Americans and that the other states have accents.  I\'m sure to people from somewhere like Ohio a Californian would sound like he has an accent.  It all depends on what they are used to.

I never said that.  I said that many floridians don\'t have accents.  Or maybe it\'s just the people I deal with.  I dunno.  Actually the people I work with all have them becasue they are from all over the country, but my mother and father don\'t have any accents.  By this I mean, you can\'t go up to my mom after hearing her for a bit and say that she says her r\'s funny.  or she adds a drawl there.  It\'s just straight talk.


And as far as californians, I really don\'t know.  I just know that I know quite a few natives and they talk just like I do here in Florida and you can\'t really say there is a distinct accent.  

I\'m over generalizing a lot, but not nearly as much as saying "American\'s" have a certain accent.

The thread was almost being very stereotypical. I mean, Aussies these days DO NOT talk the way they are portrayed on TV, simply because the classic Aussie accent is a tourist/promo kinda thing.

That is why when alot of Yanks visit Australia, they say \'Hey, you don\'t sound Australian\'.

Anyway. I think the destinction in the US is more so South/West/North/East then state by state.
