About = " a boat " [like the O sound in "croak"]
Sorry = " Sore -ee " [Say the word "sore" then add another long e to the end]

Americans:
About = " a bout " [like the O sound in "foul"]
Sorry = " Sari " [like the Indian garment; rhymes with "safari"]

There are other examples, believe me.

god!, im so sick of hearing that we say it "a-boat", we do not say it like that..... just cause im canadian and "around it all the time" does not mean that i cannot tell the difference between a-bout and a-boat.  

the only sterotype i can admit to is that, yes, we or at least I, use the word "eh" frequently.

To American ears, the Canadian pronunciation of about often sounds like aboot, but this is only an illusion. The last quote is interesting.  The author is correct that many Americans think Canadians pronounce the word "aboot."  I recognize that this is not the case.  My interpretation of the Canadian pronounciation is "a boat," which is one stage less extreme than "aboot."  It\'s more extreme than the example wav file posted on that page, but I stand by my assertion that Canadians actually do say it "a boat."  Not all the time, and not everyone, but often enough that I\'ve encountered it on many occasions.
