Not really.  It\'s first major RPG will either be Phantasy Star Online Ep I & II or Skies of Arcadia Legends, depending on which you prefer.  Yeah, both are ports, but both are being improved significantly.  Evolution Worlds is coming out soon, but... I don\'t think that will be worthwhile.  Lost Kingdoms is great, but more of an action RPG (emphasis on action, not RPG) than anything else.

As far as shooters go, not TOO much available now.  Turok and Bond being the two most noticeable.  But, Metroid is on its way, though again, that\'s more of an action them then an FPS.  Medal of Honor is being improved from the PS2 version and should be out soon.  Timesplitters 2 looks to be awesome, and most likely the GCN version will have at least graphical improvements over the PS2 version.  But MoH and TS2 are still not out for the GCN.

If you\'re into shooters and some RPGs, wouldn\'t Xbox be a better choice? Just thinking since Halo and Halo 2 are exclusive on Xbox  and might warrant a purchase over a GameCube. If you don\'t enjoy games like Mario and others, I\'m not so sure that the GameCube will appeal to you - at the moment anyway.

It depends also, on weither or not you have Broadband. Xbox will have a bunch of online titles commin thru the pipes in the next few months.. but if you\'re stuck on dialup that does f*ckall to help you out. NGC has both options for BB and 56k thru a optional modem add-on purchase. The only game that\'s going to be online for some time tho, is Phantasy Star Online Ep 1 & 2. (Addictive, but not sure if it will satify your online gaming urges)

Or is online even that big of a deal to you?

As far as games, if you\'re into PC-esqe shooters, strategys, and rpg\'s.. then Xbox is your choice. If you\'re into Japaneese RPG\'s, platformers, and quirky unique titles.. then NGC is probably your best bet.

Personally, I\'m getting the NGC. Probly before I even get a PS2.. mainly because FFXI was pushed back to March sometime and PSO Ep 1 & 2 is comming out next month sometime I believe. Combined with Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, StarFox, ect.

What happened to your last PS2?  Because I\'d have to recommend that over the other consoles.

If you get a GCN and don\'t play the cartoony games (for whatever reasons) then you are missing out.  Pikmin is the best game I have played for either of the consoles (GCN or XB) although too short :( And Super Smash Brothers: Melee has unbelievable multiplayer also.

Yeah man, good choice with the GC...

But you gotta get over the "cartoony" thing.  Nintendo\'s games focus more on the pure fun factor.  Rent Super Monkey Ball, which is cartooney as all hell, and tell me you don\'t get addicted...I\'d be truly shocked.  Also get Super Mario Sunshine.  For the more grown up tastes, I hear Eternal Darkness rules (mostly through friends of mine; opinions on this board vary widely).

Actually, the GCN is shaping up to have more RPGs, sooner, than the XBox.  Evolution Worlds (lame), Skies of Arcadia Legend, Phantasy Star Online I & II, that new Phantasy Star based game, Tales of the World/Destiny/Phantasia/Eternia (whatever it turns out to be), Gothic, Too Human, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and who knows what else I can\'t think of right now.

And with Treasure working on two GCN games, one a shooter, and arguably one of the best of this generation (Ikaruga), and Nintendo/Namco working on the other, another of the best, (Star Fox Armada) you really can\'t go wrong with the GCN.

Sure, the Xbox has a now obsolete port of Morrowind (lacking the new Tribunal expansion due out on the PC in November), and will also be getting a port of Gothic, but aside from Project Ego (still up in the air) it seems to be lacking in the RPG department.  And most of the Xbox shooters will eventually either make their appearance on the PS2 or Xbox anyway.

The PS2 and ever-expanding GCN are shaping up to be a killer combination, particularly once Christmas comes and goes.  Sony\'s choice is finally starting to get some decent RPGs, and Nintendo\'s choice is about to yield us loads of exclusive, anticipated content.  After all, you don\'t need an Xbox to enjoy Dead to Rights, Splinter Cell, Metriod Prime, TimeSplitters II, Red Faction II, or 007: Nightfire, if shooters are your thing.  And aside from the GCN RPGs I\'ve listed above, you don\'t need an Xbox to enjoy Grandia Xtreme, Grandia III, Lunar 3, Xenosaga, Star Ocean 3, or Summoner II.  Also, don\'t discount the GBA-GCN connection.  While I expect the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle will be the first to exploit it\'s connectivity potential in RPGs, I do expect some surprises for Skies of Arcadia Legend (in lieu of the DC\'s VMU.)  And... Animal Crossing, due out in about 2 weeks, will be the first game to truly show off that connectivity\'s potential.

Of course... I could be wrong. :)

Picked up a NGC today. Also got mario sunshine, eternal darkness and star wars rogue leader. The star wars game is unreal. It\'s like you are in the movie. Thanks to everyone for helping me make a decision.:D
