mm I hope you\'re referring to Nvidia\'s post.  Dood do you even notice a difference when burning?  But with my predicament I\'m sure I\'d see a difference between 16x and 48x.

16x vs 48x sure

it\'s like when dial modem manufacturers put 56k and then (maximum) in small print.  they are theoretical maximum speeds
when did u ever connect at 56,000 kps

think of it this way, is a 48x burner twice as fast as a 24x burner?
not on yer life

i remember owning a 1x speed burner that did 150kb/sec
heck, i even remember 300 baud modems when they were the shit

D\'uh mm, people other than you know that the burn (and read) speed depends on where on the CD the laser is.

Hence the reason I didn\'t care about getting a 52x burner. 48x is plenty fast and the price difference to (much) slower models insignificant. Besides, whether burning a CD takes 2 mins or 3 doesn\'t matter to me anyway.

[/b]So? I remember paying top dollar for a 4x speed CD-ROM drive back when that was the fastest shit around. Cost me $250 or so.

i hope you guys arent fooled by the 48x (MAX theoretical) burning speeds on these drives and think yer actually burning at those speeds

Duh!

I tested my drive with nero speed test, 700mb dummy file and the max speed my drive reached(at the outer edge of the cd, the fastest area) I reached 53.5x pretty nice indeed

so, u didn\'t notice the difference between 1x and 4x. uh-huh sure. You could buy a 16x burner, and a 48x burner. The 48x may not burn at that speed. But it\'ll be faster then the 16x. :)

Done a test burn with a dummy file myself. Started at 24x went to 47x towards the end of the burn. Sounds good to me. :)

normally i burn at 24x anyway.. Don\'t wanna risk a crappy burn.

Did a copy of a music cd for my mum with clonecd. Got a Average Speed: 5514 kBytes/s (31.33)   :)

Congrats;

Hey can someone help me out with getting a cd-rw.

I need an external one. And something fairly fast. But I honestly have no clue what I need to get for it. Basically I want it under 90 bucks, fairly fast, and able to burn MP3 cds, and regular AUDIO cds.

thanks for the help

First off if you plan to get an external burner make sure you have usb 2.0 supported by your computer, other wise you will only be able to burn as fast as usb 1,0 standards can acheive.

Here are some externals to think of getting

LiteOn 40x12x40 External USB 2.0
ASUS 52x24x52x External CD-RW USB 2.0
etc...

go to your device manager. Open Universal seriel bus controllers.
Then u should see something like USB 2.0 Root hub
If so, u have usb 2.0.
