Does anyone play D&D (or other RPGs)?
« on: December 11, 2006, 11:25:02 AM »
I\'m talking about the traditional paper & pencil version of D&D published by Wizards of the Coast.

Yes, I\'m a geek.  I\'m not afraid to admit it because this stuff is so cool.  You get everything out of it that you would enjoy from a high quality computer RPG game, but you also get to meet with friends and have some social interaction instead of sitting by yourself in front of a computer monitor.

I\'m currently playing in a campaign set in the frozen environment described in the "Frostburn" book.  My character is a 7th level Neanderthal Barbarian / Fighter.  I have developed him as a two-weapon fighter (two 20 lb Mauls) but I\'m not sure if that was the best way to go.  He is very tank-like in some respects, but also very dexterous.  It seems that this is one of the main attractions of D&D, as well as many computer RPGs.  Specifically, I mean improving and equipping your character to achieve their maximum potential.  My last character was a hopeless disaster, so I have much higher expectations for this fellow.

Prior to this, my experience with traditional RPGs was limited to a few games OTHER than D&D.  I ran a long campaign of a now out-of-print game called Twilight:2000 back in the late 80\'s.  Following that, I ran a hybrid Call of Cthulhu game based on a story of my own creation.  Soon I will be running another Lovecraftian RPG based on the d20 Modern ruleset.  This should begin in January.

If anyone wants to discuss RPGs, post it here.  :)

In high school I was much more of a geek than I am now.  I played D&D (pencil and paper) as well as Spycraft and another one, futuristic.  I loved my elvish ranger (pure ranger) that I had in D&D.

Next time I visit my parents house, I\'ll check on that futuristic one, I played it tonnes.  People think geeks are anti-social, but the problem is that it just looks that way when we\'re alone, some great times are had at a gathering of like-minded geeks all into the same nerdish things :)

Hmmm, an elvish ranger probably would have had two-weapon fighting, right?  Was this under ver.3 or 3.5?  They did away with the "Amidexterity" feat with ver.3.5 thank god.

Never really played the pen and paper d&d. but I\'m a huge fan of the PC games that use it. E.G. Baldur\'s Gate and the Neverwinter Nights games.

Baldur\'s Gate 2 is to this day the most fun I\'ve ever had playing a video game.
