LivinginChip: I do agree to the advantage of the having a single configuration but for hobbyist, the PC isn\'t such a bad programming platform and you can basically develop a simple game on it that can run on most PC provided some minimum requirements are met. Most PC nowadays are fast enough(say, Celeron 400 and above) and 8MB of VRAM are just about the minimum. If you are not writing some high speed machine code that tweaks specific hardware directly, Direct X is pretty portable for what it is. I think the single configuration is more of an advantage to the commercial software developers rather than the home hacker. There\'s really no reason a lone hobbyist game programmer want to crack his head and spend a year gathering info on a new system when he can spend that time developing the game that he/she wants.

btw, I do use DX to write games(as a hobby) and it really isn\'t that bad! :)

Your right. Its not a bad to develop for a PC. But, it is also a viable market for console interest. Otherwise Sony would of never tried to market the Net Yaroze with the original PS.

I don\'t try and pretend that the Indreama has a chance of commercial success. But, I think its a great idea. And hopefully more companies will take note to the free SDK. And maybe the cult following it could produce, will lead to some interesting simple games.

Speaking of the Net Yaroze, I think it\'s anything but a success story! As for getting a cult started, I\'m more interested in reviving great machines like the Amiga!

If only someone will update the Amiga with an all new version ...it\'ll already have a solid hardcore fanbase!

btw, fyi, there\'s lots of underground sites that have some information on how to develop for the Dreamcast, but it\'s not for the casual hobbyist since you need to do a lot more work to hook the DC to your PC and the info provided are pretty sketchy at times(if not intimidating!). Still, it\'s VERY interesting. :)

Imagine writing your first Space Invader game for the Dreamcast!!!

The Net Yaroze wasn\'t a success. Because of the price. Free SDK would of made it more, I believe. But your right, it would be interesting for an update of the Amiga.

I think my biggest thing is..Everyone just dismisses the Indreama as stupid. But it really does have alot of good ideas.Just bad execution!

Hmmm... who knows, maybe indreama will come and kick everyone\'s arse.

Remember that Sony\'s Ps came out of nowhere and look at it now.

Still I can\'t see any game-developers and the thing that is indrema a gaming-console or what bugs my mind.

I think it could suffer the same fate as 3d0.

But can\'t be sure.

This COULD be the perfect example of "It isn\'t about graphics but games".
