Once again, I find myself defending the Indreama. Its a lonely crusade, indeed.

Your right. The Indreama has no chance of being more popular then the other consoles. What the Indreama has a chance of being is a cult console. A cult following. Nothing more.

But, the InDreama is also the most original of all the consoles. Sure your PS2 has nify DVD playback. But does it have a free SDK (software developer kit)? MP3 play out of the box? Hard drive out of the box? Broadband out of the box? Nope. Does the PS2 run off the LINUX OS? No. Upgradable GPU? No. All these factors combined make the Indreama system a system of original content. And due to these things, the system could develop a cult following. With a free SDK,OPEN API, and etc, the system could and may very well attract programmers / hardware geeks alike.

The system will come with all the above mentioned features, plus a game as a pack in at a $300 dollar price tag. This translates into a $300 dollar computer really. They could market the console on the note alone.

This console is the one bringing an evolution to consoles. And while it may fail due to more reasons then I care to list. Maybe, another bigger company will take note and pick up some of the ideas for future consoles. Hopefully the free SDK. Sony saw there was interest with software development in the console area among gamers, and marketed their Yaroze. The price tag kept it from being a big thing. The Indreama has taken it to the next level with free SDK. Maybe, one of the bigger companies will take note.

Come launch day. I will get myself an Indreama. And I will sit it right next to my PS2, with pride. :)

Does the Indrema has Final Fantasy? No. does it have Soul Calibur? No. Does it have Metal Gear Solid? No. Does it have Daytona 2001? No. Does it have ANY games to begin with!!! Noooooo!

U might as well buy a fridge....it\'s an open system too(can store chicken and meat of any type), chill any beers and the women love it. Heh. heh.

i think it\'s interesting...but they should target it as a computer thing-a-majig,because i doubt they\'ll get any traditional console developer\'s interested in it (little profit)...?

the indrema reminds meof the presidentila race. You have playstation2 and xbox w/ different marketing technics and images for an extremely similar product and everybody will get one cause there both sure to be a succes, but nothing new will really come of either (Gore and Bush). Then you got indrema that can\'t win but is sticking in the race anyways, it has the potential to cause a revolution and has some really great ideas, but people are just more comfortable going with the sure thing (Nader).  I\'ve posted the same thing about the Indreama being the only trully original console for this generation.  What I think is great is that a console like that could really be good for the game industry (For the folowers and fans as well as financialy. Part of what keeps industries like muic going is that anybody can pick up a guitar or a microphone ect. for a few hundred dollars and start playing music,  but who can afford to pay thousands of dollars for a development system.(I don\'t think the dev. systems are even available to the general population even if they can afford them).  This give gamers a chance to create and be the artists and not just appreciate the art. That\'s like somebody who\'s into music being able to buy CD\'s but not being able to sing or play guitar ect. if they want to

Actually, for your info, there\'s ALREADY such a system out there and it\'s called...a PC!!!

It can run linux or windows, MS-Direct X libray is absolutely FREE, there\'s tons of info readily available on the net and you don\'t have to pay nobody royalty to develop your game on it....

Paul you f\'in dumbass! Thats exactly the point! It\'s *like* a PC, but affordable! And Quake 3 as well as other pc games are in development for it. Plus, its a set system. You are only programming for ONE configuration. It\'s a good idea, and the ignorant (*like Paul*) should shut the **** up!

People, people. Calm down. EThug, not everyone is going to argee, just calm down. No sense in trashing him, for stating his opinion on the system.

The idea of the Indreama is a system that can do everything. It is cheaper then an actual computer. So, it could be marktered as that. There are games in development, one of which is Quake3. The Indreama team has stated they will release a full list of games, closer to launch.

The idea of programming for one setbox. Where the hardware configurations aren\'t endless, is the key. People who want to design the games for the system can. And if they just want to give them to a few friends, they can.

No it doesn\'t have any of the big titles you mentioned. Did you expect it to? I hope not. But it does offer alot of things, that I mentioned in my previous post. And those new features, are really pioneering, so to speak. You cannot trash something for being a pioneer into new ideas. Its pointless.

Your right on that Metal. They are marketing the system wrong. It should be marketed as a cheaper version of the home computer. Instead of a console. People won\'t take it serious with all the serious competion coming out this year. But if they went with the niche\' market, they could very well make the system a success.

And for the record. Its the L600 Indreama! :)

Here are the specs: http://www.indrema.com/servlet/site?page=l600e_info.html

Looks like it can keep up with the XBox.
The GPU can be upgraded.

LivinginChip: I do agree to the advantage of the having a single configuration but for hobbyist, the PC isn\'t such a bad programming platform and you can basically develop a simple game on it that can run on most PC provided some minimum requirements are met. Most PC nowadays are fast enough(say, Celeron 400 and above) and 8MB of VRAM are just about the minimum. If you are not writing some high speed machine code that tweaks specific hardware directly, Direct X is pretty portable for what it is. I think the single configuration is more of an advantage to the commercial software developers rather than the home hacker. There\'s really no reason a lone hobbyist game programmer want to crack his head and spend a year gathering info on a new system when he can spend that time developing the game that he/she wants.

btw, I do use DX to write games(as a hobby) and it really isn\'t that bad! :)
