Nintendo/Square problems? Still?
« on: February 25, 2001, 09:57:04 PM »
I can remember back when Final Fantasy first came out, how I awaited a second... and waited and waited... Eventually the internet had come out years later revealing that Nintendo and Square were having "Problems".  Ok, so I was disapointed, we would not see another FF title for Nintendo.  Being that SNES was out, that appeared under my Christmas tree on the morning of December 25th, 1991.  So, I hooked it up, and was satisfied with the improvements.  1993... news struck, Final Fantasy IV(our II), was coming out... My eyes opened wide...  It\'s about time...  I quickly picked it up for weeks and weeks played it to death and beat it... I was proud... until I found out that once again Square was having problems with Nintendo again... That really irked me...  Somehow these problems were resolved not that much later... and Final Fantasy VI(our III) had come out... what really got me angry was that instead of getting 6 games, we got 1, and 2 modified versions of japanese games(that supposedly follow in the series).  Well... I had owned Nintendo... and moved onto N64... which at first was great... but then... dun dun dun... Square decided to stop making games for Nintendo...  I figured they come back, but they started making games without any problems...  Final Fantasy VII, which is supposedly the best game(at least best in series), and Square never came back to Nintendo... they continued to make two more successful Final Fantasy games... and even brought us a never released in US Final Fantasy V!  Now I believe V had the best system of skills and abilities(get abilities from jobs[i.e. Black mage, Knight, Summoner, Ninja, Chemist, etc.]).  Anyway, so your probably asking yourself what can I say about this, or what is your point, we knew all this.  What were these problems, why does Nintendo continue to shun Square.  Are they angry at the sucess of Sony/Square?

It\'s most likely a pride thing.  Nintendo wanted to show that they could survive without backstabbers.

I really don\'t see why FF for the 64 was cancelled. I remember screens of it and it looked awesome, even compared to the PSX games.

I hope Square and Nintendo iron things out and just give us some games dammit.

Nintendo doesnt want to lose face.

And yes those screens were sweet on the N64. Then again they were only renders.

The thought of square squeezing 3 cd\'s worth on info onto a cartrige.

No way in hell !!
I met him 15 years ago, I was told there was nothing left, no reason, no concious, no understanding and even the most rudamentory sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong, I met this 6 year old child with this blang pale emotionless face and, the blackest eyes, the devils eyes, I spent 8 years trying to reach him, and then another 7 trying to keep him locked up because I realised what was living behind that boys eyes was purly and simply evil.

Yeah, there is no way FF 7 could have been done on 64.

But I don\'t see why Square couldn\'t have made a 64 exclusive.  Like a side story.  They shouldn\'t have just up and left Nintendo like that.  I remember feeling a great hatred towards Square when that happened and haven\'t felt the same about a square game yet.

I still respect both companies.  It was Squares decision not to develop for Nintendo.  It\'s Nintendo\'s desicion to keep Square off their list of developers..

1. How could you have been so aware of the Nintendo/ Square situation back 1991 and 1993 if you only around 14 now?

2. Mario RPG and FFIV...obivously Nintendo and Square worked things out before these games because they were made by both Square and Nintendo.

3. Apparently, Square had their office building right next to Nintendo\'s so they could make game together...that shows you something.

Jesus imagine the Size of the Cartrage you would need for any of the final fantasy games .

even if they did do it one the N 64 could you imagin the price of it .

Remember the weight of your N64 Zelda game now just imagin Final Fantasy 9 on a single Cat.

or even they weight of it, simple test grab your Zelda cart aND THEN GRAB A NORMAL ONE AND FEAL THE DIFRENCE.
But hey it is Zelda and thats alowed !.
