EA Sports Big gets a little bigger with Tracy\'s return. We had hands-on time with Sled Storm 2 at E3 and it is BIG!
It\'s been over 2 years since the original Sled Storm, and now it moves up a notch in the intensity department. But why did it take so long for the sequel? According to Brian Coleman, Marketing Director for EA Sports Big, "The idea is not to sequel year in, year out." that way the licenses don\'t get overused and stale. Good idea if you ask me.
Still in development, I was able to take a good look at the game and wrap my hands around the controller. Even though the game is still approximately 6 months from release, the game looks great. According to Brain, this is going to be a PS2 only game, unlike SSX: Tricky.
Being unfamiliar with the original title, I asked why the sequel is now part of the "BIG" lineup. Mr. Coleman explained that it was decided to wait for a new platform for the sequel, and when EA Sports BIG came into being, this was a game that would naturally fit in.
You "smash and crash your way to the finish line", and get bonus points for finishing first, as well as performing tricks. These points are used to upgrade your sled & rider. This lap-based racer uses a modified version of the original\'s engine, optimized to take advantage of the PlayStation 2.
Music is also being worked on. Some of you may remember in the original that music was more on the hard rock side (i.e. Rob Zombie) and plans are not to stray from that style with the sequel.
I got to play one level of the game, and really enjoyed the way the game handled, and the level of environmental interaction. I was able to sled through a lodge at one point. Hopefully in the final version, there will be people in the lodge. The controls were smooth, and played better than some finished games on the floor of this year\'s E3.
I\'m looking forward to getting a fully finished version of the game.
Not bad,not bad.
