New Exclusive news on Smackdown 3 from Gameinformer......
« on: May 28, 2001, 03:39:39 PM »
Please Credit Wrestlegames.com for this info:

I have recently just picked up the latest issue of Gameinformer magazine. It contains some information on upcoming releases Smackdown 3 and Raw Is War. For those who have not looked at these articles, I will summarize in my own words some of the information from both games. Also, I hope to have some new screenshots from the games up later.

Smackdown 3: Just Bring It

Many people seem to think that Smackdown 3 will be a complete duplicate of the past Smackdown games. Yes it will have a similar look and with updated graphics, but it seems as if SD3 will have a different style of the engine. The engine will improve on the past games in terms of animation and gameplay.

Just Bring It promises to be much more detailed than the past two being that it is now on the Playstation 2. Along with the wrestler detail and animation, THQ has improved on the arenas and backstage areas. "...ropes that don\'t become slightly jagged when stretched, a ring apron that billows out when someone hits the mat..." says Gameinformer. You will notice little things such as a full arena and ceiling instead of the typical black areas to save space. This game will sport all of this detail at a whoppin 60 frames per second.

The screen shots that are in this magazine show highly detailed arenas and backstage areas. The backstage areas are very large leaving more room to explore. For people like me who hate load times, you will not find any load times when switching between backstage areas. You start in the ring and make your way up the ramp. In similar style of WWF No Mercy for N64, you can go backstage from there. All of the backstage areas will be two times the size of the backstage areas in the PSX game, and almost everything will be interactive.

Here is a list of all the areas that we will see in Smackdown 3:

Lobby - Not too much to this screenshot, it is a picture of the lobby area. It shows what looks to be the entrance to the actual arena with a spotlight, signs on the wall, and two open doors. There are also two sets of tall steps leading up to this door right above the conession stand. There is also a hallway area in another screenshot showing two soda machines next to a trashcan and two pay phones.

Parking Lot - In this picture, there are cars parked in the lot, in front of the building with a water fountain and another detailed building.

Plaza - In the outdoor plaza picture, you will see a big lit up sign showing the WWF logos and part of a parking lot(This is like one big city). There are also wooden benches, trees, a trash cane, and the entrance into a garage parking lot.

Pay Per View Arena - The screenshot shows the outside of a building with an entrance sign lit up in the front. Some details in this picture shows trees, lamp post, water fountain, and street.

Smackdown Arena - The screenshot shows a brightly lit arena with two floors of audience. A ceiling that you can actually see with a highly detailed Smackdown ramp and set.

WWF New York - Screens
Raw Is War Arena - None
WWF Times Square - None
Boiler Room - No picture of the boiler room.

As if you do not know already, Smackdown 3 will contain up to nine characters on screen, at the same time. This means you can have tag team matches with more than just two teams. There will also be lumberjack matches and 8 man battle royals. Wrestlers who come out with manages etc. will be able to use their managers to their advantage. The valets can distract you, the ref, or interfere in the match. With the amount of wrestlers allowed on screen at one time, a ref will be calling the match on screen, during gameplay. If you remember WWF RAW for SNES and Genisis, you could knock out the ref in that game, well, you can do the same in SD3.

Little things like the ring apron moving, run ins, replays, videos showing backstage scenes in the bottom corner of the screen during a match, are details THQ is working hard on. You will hear every slap, spit, punch in the game including announcers calling play by play. If somehow you can get in close near the announcers, you can actually see their mouths moving while calling the match. They will react to you or your opponent(s) coming over to their area and messing with them. It could be possible that the wrestlers themselves could play the role of a commentator.

To add to the excitement, here are the matches/modes that will be included:

Falls Count Anywhere
Battle Royal
Cage
Fatal Fourway
Handicap
Hardcore
Hell In A Cell
I Quit
Iron Man
King Of The Ring
Ladder
Lumberjack
No Manager
One on Two
One on Tag
One on Three
Royal Rumble
Singles
Six Man Tag
Slobber Knocker
Special Ref
Survival
Table
Tag Team
TLC
Tornado Tag
Triple Threat
Two Referee

Damn! that was a lot to type up. Well I hope you enjoyed it or enjoy it if you scrolled here to the bottom first. I will post more information on RAW IS WAR later on in the day.

This game is 2nd on my most wanted list.  I wonder why they haven\'t made an INFERNO MATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jeez, some mags. have said we won\'t see them until a good system comes out that can handle the graphics.
WHEN IS IT SUPPOSED TO COME OUT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Also do you start out with all of those or do you have to win some of them or are there others?
