Brief: Final Fantasy XI is coming to a Japanese PS2 near you, and even sooner than we originally thought.

Today, Squaresoft of Japan announced the release date of their next Final Fantasy title (and first online RPG), Final Fantasy XI for the PlayStation 2. The magic release date is... March 2002, definitely sooner than we thought Since FFXI is an online title, PlayOnline will obviously also be ready to go by the time the game is released in Japan. Final Fantasy XI is indeed pay-to-play as was reported earlier, and customers will actually not be charged until a month after the March release date. The price of the game itself, which is not 100% decided upon yet, should be between 6,000 and 7,000 yen according to the announcement.
The official announcement did not mention any other platforms besides the PlayStation 2. We are sure Square EA will announce a US date and plan, sometime in the near future.

to there are ways to give the illusion of AA,without having to take cuts in performance,and some developers are are taking advantage of themhowever ,until SOny comes up with a specific and easy ways to implement true AA that dosent take major hits on performance,you probably wont be seeing a huge number of games take advantage of it.

its set for a July release date in Japan and sometime in November in the US i believe

I,m very excited about FFXI but this pay-to-play thing is not for me.  Can you actually play the game without having to play online?

i don\'t know - maybe they will have some solo offline deal or something so you can build up your character w/o having to pay

at least i hope so or i will be kinda disappointed

My gf and I finally beat Final Fantasy IX this weekend and we can not wait for the next installment of the Final Fantasy series..

Also Square is going to re-release FF VII, IIX, IX for the PSX2  now that is cool..

I have no problem giving Square my hard earned money for some quality gaming..  :eyemouth:

I would imagine or only hope that Square does it sort of like Phantasy Star Online. Except, alittle better on the single player mode.
