Darkcloud ( my impressions )
« on: May 30, 2001, 04:06:17 PM »
ok i have been playing the game for a while now , and before  saying what i think of it , i will tell you that this is my opinion and that i loved zelda link to the past on the nintendo :D  ok here goes

Gameplay :  when you begin , you have a little trouble the camera but you will get used to it , you lock on the monster and hit him , the fighting is pretty repetitive and for some of you it can get boring if it is not your kind of game :D  The AI is a ***** , he hits you and runs away ( bastards )  , i actualy like the atibutes thing where you can give a fire spell on your sword so it will hit harder on ice people ( example )  , about the town , well i think that part of the game is great ! you put trees , water roads where you want  looks like most of my hours are going there :D

Graphics : what can i say they are awesome !!!!! the draw distance is great and  everything is really clear , but i have to say the villagers are not that detailed but they are still great . I have one problem is that sometimes you can see VERY small jaggies and some flickering but nothing to bother you .

Sound : The is ok . Nothing great . I wish it had voice acting , i beleive it would have been better  .

all in all , its a good game  ,  for now i really love playing it , i am only scared of getting bored with the same things over and over , but i guess we will see by playing :D hope this helps

Oh the magician IS MY HERO  :D

well the game is living up to my expectations of a ho hum repetitive Adventure RPG with Zelda like looking characters.

So far from all I\'ve heard and read I\'ll have to rent DC to get a taste

LOL! You, lover of Ring of Red, call a game repetitive? How funny...

I played this brefely in Software ect.  It was pretty fun and the graphics were great.  EGM rated it much better than any other mag or site so far and I usually trust their reviews cause they aren\'t afraid to mark hyped games low.

ddaryl... Dark Cloud is easily one of the best dungeon crawlers I\'ve played...  Anyways, to the person who started this thread (missed the name, ooops) HOW DID YOU GET SO FAR?!?! :)  Did you get it yesterday, or are you a freak of nature, I\'m on the 7th floor of the first dungeon!

[edit : might have ass-u-me\'ed a bit far on how far you got... thought you got UP TO ice people, but what about the magician person?  who?]

The question is...has Dark Cloud superseded Zelda on all fronts?  Now, let us be fair with this question and set all preconceived notions of either of the two aforementioned games aside.
Respect your fellow gamers simply because they enjoy playing videogames just like you.

I got the game earlier today, and I\'m currently on either the 6th or 7th level (2 levels after the first Duel battle).  Here are my impressions...

First of all, I think the graphics are great.  Although the dungeons do appear repetitve, things like that never seem to bother me.  All special effects are done nicely, and add a great deal to the visual flair.

Gameplay-wise, I believe the game is decent.  The only real thing that bothers me is the difficulty.  It\'s not the enemies that I\'m referring to, but rather, almost everything else.  My current weapon breaks way too often, which forces me to take my attention away from the action and put it towards item management.  Also, actual healing items are too rare this early in the game.  I absolutely hate having to constantly return to the "surface" in order to obtain a piece of bread or 2.  Lastly, the enemies should be balanced out more.  Things start out easy, but for some reason, about 4-5 levels down, you\'ll start to encounter enemies that easily outperform the ones found on the previous level.  The increase in difficulty here should have been a little more gradual.
That\'s just the bad side though, and I\'m sure most of those complaints will be nullified as I progress through the game.  I\'ll post some more impressions tomorrow, after I get some more game-time in.

Quick Q:  I keep seeing this \'Zelda-esque\' bit and I can\'t help but wonder what that means to those of us who weren\'t impressed with the Zelda games on N64, like myself.  For those of you that have played both, just how Zelda-esque is this thing?
For every fanboy there is an equal and opposite fanboy.

To err is human, to belabor the point to no end and deny any semblance of common sense or logic is the demesnes of the fanboy!

This game is about 10% like the N64 Zeldas... or mabey 5%... not very much... almost everything is different, I\'ve owned both... and you cannot compare these two at all.

I\'m a few more hours into the game now, still going good, it\'s getting more interesting now... some really neat things, now I have a store to visit (which you have to build) which I am thankful for...  I believe there are other dungeon surroundings when we get out of the first dungeon (say a moonscape (in the manual) or forest (in screenshots))...  I\'m just really looking forward to getting to this first town... I wonder how many darn floors this first dungeon IS?!  heh... sorry... :)
