Which system sucked again? (56k warning)
« on: June 01, 2001, 08:45:05 PM »
(just a cute little thread, nothing too serious)

I keep forgetting  :)

*All shots are real-time or in game.  Also, I am trying to balance out graphics and gameplay (one looker, one thinker).*

The Gamecube:

Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2

Even now, months before its release, people are praising this game for capturing the feel of Star Wars dogfights for the first time in years.  Stunningly realistic graphics whose insanely high level of detail withstands even the closest scrutiny.

Kameo: Elements of Power

Something of a Godsend for people who shied away from Pokemon\'s cuteness but were intrigued by the concept.

Xbox:

DOA3

If you want to prove the power of the GCN, you pull out Rouge, if you want to prove the power of the Xbox, you pull out DOA3.  Solid gameplay, insane graphics.

Project - Ego

Without question, there is no game on any platform that I am looking forward to more than this one.  The features are far too lengthy for me to list here but suffice it to say the everything in Ego\'s world evolves at all places, at all times and the AI learns, ages and adapts.

**Note to all GCN fans*** I choose this shot because some people have questioned wether TDK\'s GCN mystery shot can be in-game or even real-time.  I have every confidence that is can be and it is because of this shot (on an Alpha II dev kit, in-game).

PS2:

FFX

Jaw-dropping graphics, a series second only to Mario and Zelda in terms of mind share, will sell tons of systems and is almost certain to be great.

MGS2

MGS2 and FFX?  Who saw it coming  ;)  An Intellegnt-Action-Spy game, it doesn\'t get much more cool than that.

Anyhow, I am sure that you all get the idea.  This is an exceptional time to be a gamer and while debating is fun, any one of these systems will bring its owner countless years of entertainment.

I thought it was alright, too. Then I got to the THIRD disc. It blew my mind away how utterly cool the firs tone was and right now it stands in my top 5 most wanted titles!

Thats simple, because anyone here who says graphics don\'t matter is a big fat liar

Sure Graphics are only a part of the equation, but every single gamer alive get their 1st impression of any game or any system by the quality of the graphics. Then we start to think about the gameplay sound etc...

I won\'t lie to anyone, I am a graphics whore. Eye Candy is one of the reasons I play video games.

Naturally good looking games don\'t mean I will buy them

**cough** the Bouncer **cough**

but a great looking game definetly scores some points with all of us

My impressions from THESE shots

xbox easily looks the best, second comes ps2 and last GC (they can do better!;)) And thoe shenmue shots look very nice for dreamcast but doesn\'t compare to xbox, gc and ps2

"why do so many people think its about the graphics?" - ps2gamer_59

I dunno. Probably the same reason why most gamers think that a game has to ooze action, blood, and half-naked chicks to be good. It\'s just been spoon fed to the masses for so long.

Granted, graphics are nice... and I fully expect to drool at better graphics as years go by. BUT, they are not a pre-requesite for making a good game. Anyone who says a game is crap or worthless because it isn\'t chocked full of polygons or is missing a few of the latest effects has his head planted deep between his ass cheeks.

*shrugs shoulders* Oh well.. back to playing Space Quest 3!

Space Quest 2 was better! But Police Quest 1 was better than both!! hahahaha! That game had terrible graphics, but the gameplay was ace. Like how you had to check the car before getting it, or you would DIE! hahaha! Great games. Of course then you have crap like Bouncer, the game that i know of not ONE single person who still plays it!!

graphics are good to look at, I agree, but graphics have NEVER made me buy a game before. I go by WoM, reviews, and most likely renting. me looking at the game gives me no bearing on how good it is. All I know is, I have a friend who is a Square Whore and buys every Square game that comes out, that is why I laugh whenever we are playing games at his pad and I say, "Why don\'t we play Driving Emotion?, buwahahaha or even better, how about Bouncer, hahaha!" ...ahhh good times.

Well, I was going to tell you to blow it out your ass, and then mention a game I thought was better... but I really can\'t pick one over the other! They\'re all great. CRAP, there goes my argument!

Just think.. this was cutting edge just 15 years ago. How long do you think it\'ll be before the Xbox, PS2, or GC\'s graphics begin resembling this more than anything next generation?
