nVIDIA Corporation introduced its new nForce™ Platform Processing Architecture today at the COMPUTEX tradeshow in Taiwan.  NVIDIA’s nForce is a revolutionary new PC platform design, integrating system, graphics, communications, and audio technologies to deliver unmatched system performance for the mainstream PC market. To bridge the gap between the expectations of today’s users and the limitations of current and future technologies, and to deliver unmatched system performance, it was necessary for NVIDIA to depart from the traditional "Northbridge/Southbridge" chipset architectures to create an entirely new class of PC platform. The NVIDIA nForce Platform Architecture provides four key benefits to consumers:
The world’s fastest PC platform architecture ever designed
Five to 10 times the graphics performance of any other integrated PC graphics accelerator
AMD’s HyperTransport™ technology, integrated onto both the nForce IGP and nForce MCP, improves overall system level performance by providing up to 6 times the internal  bandwidth needed for today’s demanding system requirements

What does this mean? The architecture will be there and when the GPUs get better it will have no bottlenecks associated with the PC!  I can\'t wait when this comes out with the next generation GPU! But for now Xbox will occupy my time!

I don\'t get this.  Is Nvidia actually going to begin manufacturing motherboards, or just the chipset?  They refer to it in vague terms like "revolutionary new PC platform design" without actually saying what their damn product is.  Without knowing who\'s going to be manufaturing the motherboards, I\'m uncertain how well this "technology" will be adopted.

Still, it sounds nice.  Their IGP chip will have a GeForce2 built in, but you can still bypass to another GPU like the GeForce3 attached to an AGP slot.  With the GPU built-in, it seems like it\'s making PCs more hardware standardized like consoles.

It\'s just a chipset,it\'s going to compete with the AMD 761 and the VIA KT266.

i wonder if this supports SMP (I haven\'t checked out the complete specs)

But I am no fan of all this onboards stuff
