Blue Discs + Horizontal = NOISE

All other discs, vert or horz are totally silent.

The best way to describe it is if you have a fast CD-ROM on your comp 30x plus you know what that sounds like when it gets up to speed, exactly like that. But the PS2 has a fast drive (30x?) so that prolly explains it.

When I put it vert, it goes quiet.

Blue discs have the most data so they have to spin the fastest also.

Black PSone discs are fine
DVD video/game are fine
CD Audio are fine

My mate bought one the same time as me he has it vert and said it is quiet, brought it round my place, put it horz and put a blue disc in, noisy.

It is a little better if I take it off te unit and put it on the carpet.

I will list some discs and say where they are noisy, if you lot could just put your ps2 horz and if you have any of these discs test them to see if they\'ar noisy.

Red Faction Demo - Noisy for only a sec or two on startup

GT3 demo (official ps2 mag) - Noisy on startup, quitens in game

Tekken 3 - Also noisy on startup

Crazy Taxi - Noisy up until game starts

I have rang Sony and they say nothing is wrong.

Thanks alot guys

Peace

For me, tekken tag in the horizontal position makes a LOT of noise on startup, and occasionally that noise continues through for a little while, but will eventually stop during gameplay. Timesplitters makes less noise, but still does generate a bit.

SSX for me is fine though, and no PSX disks make noise
Probably the earliest flyswatters were nothing more than some sort of striking surface attached to the end of a long stick.

I got mine on 24th November 2000..

And the only disc/game that makes a loud noice i SSX.

Its pretty odd. Sometimes it is very loud..  and sometimes its less noisy..

Its just SSX that has this problem... Maybe a "vobble:y" disc :)

The ps2 is always loud which annoys me with my tv mono sound :( Tekken Tag Tournament is Loud as HELL! I can\'t believe it this may be a coincidence but it\'s scratched too. wonder why it vibrates so much? Annoying :)

TTT is "normal". Smuggler\'s Run is very loud. All DVDs are silent because of the 4X speed.

I had the noise problem with SSX and Timesplitters( 1 time each).
I use to eject the disc and put it in again , then the noise is gone.

no problems here, tho only noise it makes is the fan and a little odd rumble when i take a cd out, but nothing big.
and the blue  disks store the least amount of data.
usually the noise is about the wobbly disk.
IM BACK. you have a problem with that? get in the back.

but the question is: what´s that sound? The fan or the disc load?

What do you think?

Mine is when the CD drive spins at it\'s fastest. Blue discs hold the most data for a CD.

Mine purrs silently, except when playing TTT. The disc really gets a good spinning with that game. Other games don\'t cause as much noise. At least I haven\'t noticed (headphones in use).
