New games for your favorite system?
« on: June 08, 2001, 03:42:39 PM »
If you could make any 2nd party developer a 3rd party developer, who would it be?  This year, we saw Sega set its second parties off to claim the proverbial 3rd party booty from all other game companies, but which other ones would you prefer to finally drop the exclusitivity crap and finally just start making games for all systems?  I\'ll get the ball rolling...

Factor 5

Factor 5 puts LucasArts to shame in just about every category and when it comes to Star Wars games, especially since I am an avid Star Wars fan, no one beats factor 5.  Rogue Squadron 2 immediately appeared on my most wanted list as soon as I saw the very first early screens of the title and I hope that it\'s lucious graphics match its ambitious level of quality.

I\'ll think of a few more later, but I have a few things to do.  Name your favorite and say why.
Don\'t you ever touch my cape.

GOD DAMMIT I LIKED THIS TOPIC AND WROTE A LOT ABOUT IT AND SOMEHOW IT GOT DELETED. :pissed:

Bah, I basically said that Nintendo had the only high quality 2nd parties. Factor 5(they are a  3rd party but I don\'t see them switching over anytime soon), to a lesser extent Camelot( yeah they are a 3rd party too but they made Mario Tennis and Mario Golf! They aint going anywhere), SILICON KNIGHTS(remember Too Human on the PSX?), NST(Wace Race:Blue Storm developer, and the all might Rare.

Anyhoo, the 2nd party that the majority of Sony and MS loyalists would want the most is Rare. I don\'t care what anyone says, they talented as hell. Banjo-Kazooie was the ONLY 3D platform game that could touch Mario 64(it maybe even a little better than Mario...), Goldeneye was the best console FPS ever till Perfect Dark came out, Jet Force Gemeni was bad but it showed that Rare was willing to try new things, and Diddy Kong Racing shows that Rare is innovative and keeps the fun factor of their games in mind. With NGC, they\'re already working on new stuff.

Star Fox Adentures is their attempt at a Zelda-like game and Kameo is their attempt at a...RPG/ adventure/ platform game.

These guys kick major ass. \'Nuff said.

*All of this is my opinion btw*

Rare, they make great games, easily one of the top 5 developers around, IMO...id love to see them on PS2.  As it stands i wouldnt buy a console for them (Square are the only people id buy a console for if they developed exclusively for it) so i wont be getting a GC.  However, my friend is definately getting a GC, and ill be playing a lot of his games.  Rare make some of th ebest console games around, and naturally, id want to see them on PS2

Definitely rare also. Ever since i chucked Donkey Kong Country in my SNES for the first time, I knew these guys had talent. That remains one of the best, if not the best platformer in the 16-bit era, and still stands as one of the best 2D platformers of all time. They\'ve consistently produced good titles for Nintendo, and in their darkest hour of the N64, even kept them afloat.

Like ganon said, if you didn\'t know them after DKC, you knew them after Goldeneye. That was the game that caused a revolution. That was the first console FPS that really made people take notice and realise you could have a good FPS on a console. It was one of the best games on the N64, and Perfect Dark game out and delivered a far better sequel. Like bobby said, there are a LOT of people who\'d buy a console specifically for rare. I think it\'d be a credit to all systems if they became 3rd party.
Probably the earliest flyswatters were nothing more than some sort of striking surface attached to the end of a long stick.

Hmm.. None actually. Each console\'s individual Second parties (as well as first partys) are what helps make them unique. Take away any of the great inhouse development studios, and that dims the spotlight on the console they left. Now, more than ever, I think we need diversity and competition in the console market to keep things fresh and innovative.

However, It would be cool to see SingleTrac reform and go 3rd party just to give the other consoles a taste of a good low profile developer can do. Or perhaps have 989 go 3rd party so that they will no longer have Sony backing them up with wads of cash to help them out when they fail due to their lazyness and almost total lack of talent.

Then again, they might just end up turning into the next 3DO... *shudders*
