Should I pick up a DreamCast?
« on: June 10, 2001, 03:01:55 PM »
It seems that the system and games are really cheap now.  I was thinking of picking up that Sonic bundle for 119.99.

assumin\' you already have a ps2...go ahead if you want to.  It\'s cheap and the other systems are months away.
I will either save my money or spend it on some ps2 games but that\'s just me.

do so, its worth it all, its cheap, has onilne games, and the games rock. you couldnt get any ps2 games for 110 dollars(right now) that would be more fun.
but if you are on a limited paycheck, and only have that amount, and love twisted metal...
Get Twisted Metal: Black.(coming to stores, june 19th)

othere that, get a dreamcast.
IM BACK. you have a problem with that? get in the back.

If you would have asked this about three months ago, I would have said yes.  But now the PS2 is getting some really great games (TMB is being shipped on the 19th, but it will be in stores on the 20th).  I bought the Dreamcast a while ago just for the 2D fighters, but now the PS2 is getting CvsSNK2 in September, so that eliminates that reason.

If you really want to play Sonic 2 or Shenmue 2, get it.  But if you don\'t really care for those games, I would just wait for a little longer for some great PS2 games to come out.

You have to look at it from both sides of the argument before you can make the correct response for you.

Do you have a PS2? If so, most of the anticipated games everyone\'s been squirming for are finally starting to hit stores. If you want these games, and have a limited gaming budget, this is a serious consideration.

Does the Dreamcast have software you want and will be inclied to buy for reasons other than the incrediable prices? The system\'s price is very appealing, but if you dont like the existing library, it\'s money spent poorly. Likewise, if the system has many titles and genera\'s you enjoy, then it might be a very good deal for you\'re gaming habits.

It is undeniable, DC is a great system at a great price. But, if you buy something you\'re not going to use for half off, was it such a good deal after all? Just make sure it\'s something you will enjoy, doesn\'t interfere with other expenses, and most importantly, has a library of titles which fit you\'re gaming preferences.

If everything checks out and you really do want one, go for it. If not, then think it through for a while; you\'ll come to the right decision.

Well I say yes, definately pick one up. But your tastes and budgets are different than mine, so the best advice I can give you is to borrow a friends DC and rent a bunch of games that look cool to you.. along with a few recommended titles. (Can\'t judge a book by it\'s cover afterall..) That\'s only way to REALLY know if it\'s something you\'ll be happy purchasing.

I suggest you do the same with the PS2, GC, and Xbox in order to make a more educated purchasing decision. (At 300 bucks a piece for two of those consoles, you\'ll want all the education on those products you can get. Unless you\'re Dirty Rotten Filty Stinking Rich.. and in that case, just buy them all and throw a couple more 50s on the fire to keep warm.)

I think that you should buy the DC.  That is a good buy, and cheap too.  But If I were you I would probably save my money.  The DC, and believe it or not, the PS2, will be obsolite soon :( .  Not saying to wait for another half a century, but, your money, your opinion...........
