Arrrrrrggg! F*ck This! Plz Help Me!!!!

I just got Counter-Strike today (yeah) and I would be having alot of fun.......it it weren\'t for the fact that it freezes/crashes/screws up on my every 10 minutes!! :rpissed:
I don\'t know why, maybe its the disk, but it keeps f*cking up on me.

Heres what problems I\'ve been having:

1. You know how when you join a game/leave a game/start it up how the screen flickers for a second (to change the resolution, I think)? Well sometimes that will happen, only it won\'t stop. It will continue to flicker between the desktop and the game constantly, not allowing me to enter the game nor exit it. I can press Ctrl-Alt-Del all I want but nothing happens, same with Ctrl-Esc, Alt-F4, nothing. I eventually have to restart my computer manually by pressing the Reset button.

2. Sometimes it will freeze on me while it on the screen before a game starts (with the CT holding a gun), causing me to have to Ctrl-Alt-Del it away. Unfortunetly since the game didn\'t exit properly it didn\'t set the resolution back to 800x600 (my default) so it stays at 640x480, which sucks. And the taskbar is gone too.

3. When a server shuts down/I get booted/game doesn\'t connect(not enough slots left, ect) and it goes back to the Internet Games screen it will have the little minimized Counter-Strike bar at the lower left hand corner of the screen. I know its hard to visualize but just think when you click minimize on Napster and it doesn\'t go to the taskbar, it goes on top of it to the left, thats whats happening.
This wouldn\'t be much of a problem except that for some reason after this has happened I can\'t join any servers and the game eventually crashes giving me a Kernal.dll error.


PLZ PLZ PLZ I need help with this. These are not nesessarily glitches just very, very annoying little problems.
I\'m sick to death of having to restart my comp every 5 minutes and having my resolution changed to crappy 640x480 without warning.

Could it be that the disk was damaged? I don\'t think so. But you never know.

P.S. Another strange thing thats happening is that the servers are not in alphabetacil(sp?) order on the Internet Games screen. And although its not a glitch or an error, its kind of annoying when you\'re arranging to meet a friend online and he says "Meet me in (server name), its in the Ts/Cs/2s/whatever".

Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like you need to setup your video drivers and settings properly.  I recommend 640x480 since your videocard is rather poor if it hasn\'t changed since the last time you talked about it.  Then, make sure you\'re running in openGL and if you have been, try it in Software or Direct 3D mode.  If nothing works, then by all means, get a new videocard.

Secondly, don\'t use the CS interface for connecting to games.  Here\'s a quick dl that will help you tremendously when connecting to games\\finding a server; Gamespy at http://www.gamespy.com.  This program sorts most games not only by server name and settings but also by IP, which is a fundemental tool when connecting to games.  Gamespy allows you to browse by map, IP, ping, and many other settings tweakable by the user.  It\'s much more manageble then that HL in-game bull****.

Finally, when joining your friend in a game, ask for the IP number.  If he doesn\'t know what it is, explain it to him since it is the most reliable way for joining games.

I got the other vid card I was talking about to work so thats what I\'m using now. Its 8mb AGP, supports OpenGL, and runs a hell of alot better than my old one.

I just today installed some new OpenGL drivers for it and also installed some new drivers for my mobo.

The weird thing is when I go to the console and turn cl_showfps on it usually stays around 20-35fps but it runs smoothly even when it drops to 15fps, so I don\'t think cl_showfps is that accurate.

and if you did not buy the retail cstrike, I commend your intelligence.

I usually use GameSpy to connect - or if I\'m lazy and know the IP I\'ll just start CS and go into console, and type "connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:27015" or whatever. It\'s faster.

Yes I have ME, and no that doesn\'t have anything to do with it.
I have several friends who have ME and it works fine on there\'s.

Ok, stupid question, but how do you get the server list (in the in game list) to be in alphabetecal(wrong spelling again) order???!!!

Ryu is rite.. mess around with your video settings until you get it perfect for your comp... Maybe it will work better on Direct 3D since it only is 8mb of AGP..

Me personally when I get m new comp in ten days will definetly put it on Open GL OH YEA! lol got a little carried away.

That makes no sense at all. OpenGL is alot faster than D3D so why would D3D run better?

Just tried Software Mode and D3D Mode, Software Mode gets me around 6fps (LOL!) and the gfx suck. D3D gets me slightly better perfomance than Software Mode but still jumps around alot, the text is messed up though, and the sound is screwed up too.

I told you OpenGL is best.

Strangly though with Software mode and D3D mode #3 didn\'t happen, strange. It might be the OpenGL drivers. I\'ll play around a bit more.

maybe you should defrag your disk and buy a new vieo card (if you still have your old matrox?) get a gf2MX.

and if you have the retail version,. trash it! Its not really good. My friend bought it and he is is missing his console! , so he can\'t do binding and fps checks. get the good ole internet version , 1.1

What you got to do is, take a sledgehammer hit your computer repeatedly around 20 times. Throw it on the floor kick it as hard as you can. Try to put it together, sell it and buy a new computer. Although this will take alot of work, it would be pretty fun.

@ MGR - My gfx card is an Intel740 Graphics Accelerator 8mb (AGP), so its a bit better than my old one (note: i didn\'t buy this, got it for free).

To access the console on CS Retail simply make a shortcut to cstrike.exe, right click on the shortcut, go to properties, and add "-console" to the end of the Target.
From then on when you click on the shortcut you can access the console.

try looking fo patches on the internet, thats how i fixed starcraft

that video card isn\'t really good, I suggest you  buy a new one
