Never understood this aspect of the Xbox .....
« on: June 17, 2001, 04:30:06 PM »
Hey guys,
I was just looking at some xbox stuff because with the amount of hours I\'m putting into my new job ( 70 + )

I will be able to afford an xbox, gamecube and get some killer ps2 games and accessories.

I was looking at the news at xbox ign
http://xbox.ign.com/news/35862.html

I came across this quote
"But using the idea of storing data on a temp basis, the drive can have a major impact on both load times and the look of the game. By caching level data on the drive, developers can make levels much larger than the system’s 64MB of RAM. Also, much higher detailed textures can be cached and then streamed into the game as needed."

and this one
"Of course, you\'ll be able to save games to the hard drive, which virtually eliminates the need for a memory card unless you want to take a save over to a friend\'s house."

Now I was just thinking, the save idea is awesome because most people might just buy one memory card for transportation purposes. I know I would.

But the first quote still stumbles me. The system comes with a 10 gig hard drive, and If i use it for save files and other files you would be able to get off the net and stuff. If the game is program to cache to the hard disk and if the HD is full? What would happen?
Im not a computer genius. I know a few things and all but I just never understood that.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks.

Don\'t worry, we won\'t get an oprotunity to use all 10 Gig, before that the M$ OS will corrupt most of the data, :D
