Tom\'s hardware weighs in on best console!
« on: June 24, 2001, 10:10:32 PM »
this is from one of the largest and most respected tech sites on the net:

Yes, the Xbox is comparable in terms of graphics to the PlayStation 2, but so is Nintendo\'s GameCube. All three were running, side by side, Madden Football on the EA booth, and frankly, you\'d be hard pressed to tell the difference. In practice, if it came down to raw horsepower it would probably be Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, in that order, but you can derive as much pleasure from each depending on the content. In other words, if you are buying the platform for raw horsepower, you are using the wrong criterion.

interesting how he lists the systems in order of horsepower...and this guy is no fanboy...

O_o; EA just used the same engine for all three versions of the game... I thought everybody knew that.

Yeah, of course they look the same.  They didn\'t bother changing it for any system.

And Ha ha Bob.  He stole your name. :p

he is making his judgement based on the hardware(umm tom\'s hardware?)

if he was basing it on his previous statement regarding EA\'s game he would have put them equal...

and in his article he points out that all three systems will survive(thrive?) to some point and how irrelevant it is just to look at the tech specifications...

i only mention it because it is interesting what a hardware guru thinks...i myself think the xbox is impressive(or should i say the geforce3)

and i like the gamecube too...i like...GAMES.

(still he likes sony better...naa naa na boo boo)

the link to the article is from the front of his page...E3 was not that long ago...

perhaps because you don\'t understand the respect tom\'s hardware(and ok he didn\'t right it...valid point) gets, you think it is dismisable, however this site is a focal point for a lot of thought on the technology that comes down the pike

perhaps you are a little too sleepy to give a s*** but I(and others) find it pretty cool...

Hah hah hahh..  Bob, when I first saw your name on this forum, I assumed you got it from Tom\'s Hardware.  I guess it was a coincidence.

Tom\'s Hardware has been around a long time, and it\'s very well known.  I\'ve been reading it forever, and it\'s awesome.  Whenever I start investigating new PC components, I always start with that website.  They are GREAT for motherboard evaluations and breaking news on new CPU technology.  They\'re VERY impartial and they don\'t bullsh**.

do you really believe Visual COncepts, a company that has only developed for 1 console and now 3 or 4 is going to write seperate engines for the same game.

Do you realize how much effort goes into getting a game engine up an running 100% on 3 or 4 seperate and different platforms with in a years cycle

That would be the #1 way for Sega to discover how to lose money being a 3rd party developer.

I\'m sure both EA and Visual Concepts will tweak the engines to show off some of the strengths of each console, but to make the statement you did is being naive to reality of game developing from a financial standpoint
